Torrent Experts I need some help

I have downloaded torrents for about 5-6 months and the other day I got an email from my internet service provider saying they saw i downloaded an illegal file and they had the name of the file and my IP address and everything, they said to stop or else. After using torrents I dont want to go back to youtube converting so is there anything i can do to continue without being caught? I used Utorrent and Torrentz.eu to find torrents

are u sure the email is legit? people pull that shit all the time dude i wouldn't be to sure.... but try FrostWire its so easy to use

No it's fine, just download like 20 well known movies at one time and they won't be able to keep track.

use proxies
use an outgoing encryption
don't seed after your torrent has finished (gasp)

i dont think youtube converting can really be tracked the way torrents can... can it?

Ya thats happened to me, check out PeerBlock, you might wanna do some research before you start using it, in order for it to work right you need to kinda know what your doing. I use it now and it didnt take me to long to figure it out.

Peerblock also lets you see who is trying to communicate with your computer. You'll be surprised at you who is watching you.

Just as an FYI, (not answering your question) I do believe you don't get in trouble with the law anymore for being caught by your provider with this, they will just slow down your download/upload speeds so much that you won't want to download torrents anymore

And your logic is.....????

It works great if you have the correct block lists and block http// while your downloading. The only other thing that could go wrong is if your downloading torrents from a bad source. As I understand it.

Because of how the bittorrent protocol works. When downloading a torrent, even when using PeerBlock, your IP is pretty much open for the world to see.

I am not gonna try and argue this because I know there are lots of holes in PeerBlock and it is far from the end all. But if your not downloading a whole lot and want to keep the cable companys off your ass it works well.

I had the same problem happen with me but i was to scared to try anything then like a couple months later i decided to do it again and i havent gottn caught but i mainly only downloaded movies and now i just use a website to stream them.
WEBSITE for the movies: http://www.movie2k.to/ has a ton of new movies but the onees still in theatres usually are bad quality

Use direct downloads through sites that have zip or rar files uploaded to them. Far harder to track.

You must have been downloading a shitload of stuff...usually they don't send that out unless you are downloading a bunch of movies/music.

I don't know if they are really going to be closely watching you but if you choose to keep torrenting, try to keep it to maybe 2 or 3 major downloads a month.

I've gotten probably 10 of those emails over the past 5 years and nothing's happened, so your probably ok, just dont dl big titles the day they're avaliable .

if you still dont want to go back to the torrents use sites like soundowl or hulkshare you have to make accounts but they will never send you bullshit emails.

i got an email from charter that someone downloaded a movie though our (ip? modem? wtf) and to stop it or whatever, apparently the email only goes to the guy who's email is listed with the service plan.
so now in ND, i use the neighbors unsecured internet

Alright thanks for all the info but Im pretty sure the email is legit, they had my IP, date it was downloaded, movie title and everything, it was an older movie so I really didnt think much about it. I usually only download music every once in a while so Im not sure.

Also does it really matter if i do it on a different network cause it all would still show up under my IP, or is that what a IP blocker is for, probably a dumb question but I just want to be careful

anything you do online can be tracked, and recorded by anyone who cares and has the ability to employ code or read/write code. spyware can increase the difficulty to do this, but it isnt excessive to think that somebody could hack through. so yes, it can be tracked. but the volume of people who do it is in the millions, so you have to get unlucky to get nabbed.

Proxies, proxies, proxies... But your provider will likely not do anything about your downloading. They're usually pretty reluctant to cut paying clients.

What is a reliable number of seeders to go with in reference to downloading an album? I have been going with ones with at least a few hundred but some of the stuff I'm downloading only has a max of like 25. Opinions?

you can use peerblock, download the blocklists and it will automatically block any IP address that is trying to peek into your computer that is on that list. and the lists are updating frequently. Proxy is also a good option, but use peerblock including proxy to be on the safe side. www.peerblock.com
