Rogge, your article answered the big question for sponsored athletes in that Tetongravity.com is the lone sponsor, meaning there will be NO SPONSORSHIP CONFLICTS. It's also great to know TGR will not "own" the footage anyone submits (though they will ovbiously retain rights to use it). However, all I want to know as an underground dirtbag skibum is the time limit. I hope it's less than five minutes. Three minutes would be ideal. Then I feel like I could make a decent submission.

personally i think 5 minutes would be sick, you would almost have time to develop a short film rather than an edit.

Wow. This is so incredibly dope. Taking it to a whole new level. If only I was better at skiing. I reckon pro's will dedicate a whole season to this, throwing down the hardest they can. We will see some MINDBLOWING segments for sure.

The beauty of it is that people will upload their incredibly segments, free for us to watch, and we get to vote. Free incredible footage = winning.

I hope you can include multiple riders, and that this is non-discriminent in allowing both skiers and snowboarders.

It's basically a bigger, hairier version of their Grom contest they've been running. 

Is Willie Borm tied up in Todd Jones' basement?  No.

It's a great contest, and its open to anyone.  Also who cares if the edit becomes their property, they just got paid $100k for it and it'll get your name out there bigtime.

Find it pretty damn hard that tgr has 100K. Is tgr owned by someone with a lot of money? Even with all the sponsor payouts and movie sales I don't think they even actually have 100K.

I'm sure they could come up with $100k from a number of big name sponsors. It's literally the biggest prize purse, and will likely generate the most online views of any ski related event before. TNF will shit out $50k, and $20K from a few other brands shouldn't be that hard. And if you even get a non-ski related brand (energy drinks, Coke, car brands, etc). it'll be super easy.

Threads for more info. also, to all the people who hate on the olympics... The ski film industry has never been stronger then it is right now, and continues to get stronger. You dont have to hate on the Comp world is growing as well.

it seems that TGR has done just a truly terrible job of marketing this event recently. I remember it blew up when it was first announced and then absolutely nothing. Maybe they are doing more promoting on the actual TGR site but i havent heard anything recently about it.

I am still a little confused with this. Obviously to win you are going to have to spend lots of money. So the way I see it, its all or nothing. Because even if you come in the top 10 and you dont get #1, you get no money, and they still get to use your footage. I think its a fucking awesome deal for TGR's side because they only have to pay $100k for a movie, when normal it costs millions to produce. If someone like Kyle Decker submits his Tom Wallisch project, then its an automatic win. So idk we'll see, but its a helluva deal for TGR and only a good deal for the winner, nobody else.

How the fuck do some people not understand such a simple concept or think that its somehow unfair to the athletes? No shit it's all or nothing, it's a winner take all contest- some people win and a lot loose but even if they don't win they still get exposure. Instead of the top three getting money it's a winner take all thing but its not that different than comps. Are you going to start complaining in every comp thread because only three people are going to make money directly and it's unfair for everyone who lost?

And what's up with people thinking that Wallisch is going to instantly win? I'm sure Decker's project will be competitive but TGR is a big mountain focused film company and I'm pretty sure top level skiers like Sage and Ligare are also entering.
IMO it's a really cool idea that allows ripping non- sponsored skiers to possibly get in a TGR movie and maybe get a lot of beer money if their entry is good enough.

I dont think you understand what I mean. No underground unknown skier is going to win unless they are rich as fuck. You wont win unless you have lots of money into your entry. Thats just a fact of the matter. I forsure would love to see someone unknown win, but its just not going to happen. Sure its a good deal if you put little to--no money into your movie, and win or come top 10, yeah thats good exposure, but its very unlikley honestly. I dont think non-sponsored skiers have a chance in this situation.

You are wrong. People can create banger edits without a budget at all. June 10th is the day that the videos go live for voting. Then you will see.

I'm not as skilled as the likes of McNutt and others, but I can get onto dope untracked mountains with my own two feet. I maybe crossed three tracks in my entire edit. I could have accessed rails, but that's not my game. If you have the skill all you need are a lockoff and POV angle, but surely the winner will have a bit more creativity...

you are right in saying you need connections and some money invested. I dont think the contest is aimed towards non-sponsered skiers , and frankly I dont think any would win even if they had tons of cash. It is gonna be won by one of the most talented skiers in the game.

I could see a solid entry coming from one of the TSP or Hoodcrew guys, or another AM crew though. I dont think it will be judged on the cinemetography after the fan voting, more on the skiing itself.

I honestly dont see why they wouldnt have a chance at winning. alot of AMs throw down just as hard as pro guys. Look at the superunknown edits that the hoodcrew guys put out, and you will find some of the most gnarly urban shots out there.
