Hi, this is my thread.. I searched in the search bar but I couldn't find a match. If you've ever had a pair of Surface skis, you'd know they chip easily. Really easily. I have a square inch chip in mine which I've had for a little less than a third of a season. Is there a way to fix it or patch it up? Or can I just leave it open? I don't want it to screw with the core of my skis and fuck them up.
Much thanks!
Unless it's down to the core I wouldn't worry about it too much from a "core-damaging" perspective. I usually like to fix big ones that I have because I always happen to get a slivers from them.
nothing is going to get screwed up in the core so dont worry. all skis chip and companies know that. the top sheet literally is just the graphic. so just forget about it... plus there is no fix other than duct tape thats just going to fall off anyways
If it's just chipping off in small pieces right at the sidewalls i usually take some really fine grit sandpaper and sand it down a little. It doesn't fill in the gap but it slows down additional chipping. If you're worried about water getting in a little dab of epoxy can seal it pretty well
Precisely. If you need to re attach a piece of the top sheet, use some epoxy, clamp it down with moderate pressure, then sand it smooth and remove the excess once it's cured. For major ski repairs it's a good idea, to use high quality, penetrating, high strength epoxy (often referred to as marine grade), but if its just a basic top sheet chip, you can pick up some cheap, 5 minute set epoxy at your local hardware store.
