I'm wondering if anyone here has any experience with taking longboards on a plane. I checked silverfish, and found a skateboard specific bag which was helpful, but I'm in the market for a slightly cheaper/more ghetto-rigged solution. So I open it up to you Newschoolers, how can I get my longboard from the States to Rome?
ut mine in my ski bag on my way back to europe and duct taped the shit outta of it.it was a tight fit and they even had to open my bag for some reason.I dont think you could take it as a carry on
first, snowboard/ski bag. Just throw it in there with a shit ton of clothes.
Second, get some foam pipe insulation and use that to wrap the rails, then wrap it in bubble tape and find a cardboard box to put it in, any skate shop should have one about the right size
Sometimes you can bring it on the plane or check it at the gate, but this is very hit or miss. Best bet is to call your airline and ask them what the best option is, they may let you bring it on the plane or tell you that it has to be checked, in which case a ski/snowboard bag or a box is what you want.
I brought my 41" dervish onto a Southwest as a carry on in no bag. No one even said anything and I just carried it around with me. That was in addition to having a backpack and a small suitcase as carry ons too.
i went on a plane from Boston to Seattle with a longboard. i just carried it and kept it in the shelves above the seat. got some looks from people though, although it couldve been because my teeshirt said "I FUCKING LOVE COCAINE" with a picture of a bear.
if you know where you are going you could mail it to yourself before hand or have a friend mail it once you got there if thats not too expensive or call the airline
Ya dude i seriously do this all the time when i go to portugal. i get a duffle bag, rap my board (trucks n all) in bubble wrap and then just put my clothes around it. if you have one of those old school way too big boards, a snowwboard bag and the same preparation might be the way to go. this way has never failed me and that way you dont get anal raped by luggage fies for bringing sports crap
