It is definitely worth downloading... I tried using a non-hacked DSLR earlier this month and it was horrible. non-hacked software doesn't even compare to ML

Yeah, get it. The T2i can't be considered a functional video camera without it. Some would argue it can't be considered one with it, but it's just got so much stuff, you gotta get it.

DLing it isn't hard, just make sure you do it right. Take your time and follow directions.

I've never heard of anyone who's bricked their camera hacking it before... As long as you download and install it properly, nothing can go wrong (knock on wood)

Perfect. I heard that there was a defect in the ML software and that you could only control the aperture certain lenses. The 18-270 is on that list so that good, but the 17-50 and 70-200 L aren't, TROLOLOLOLOL.

na, you just didnt take the time to learn about it. Its fairly simple to learn and the newer versions are even more streamlined and easier to use.

This. Your DSLR is so much easier to use as a video camera with it. There's really no comparison. You just have to take the time to get used to it.

The newest update of it is easy as hell, all you have to do is update to the newest canon software then put the ML software on the card then hit update again. I got a new SD card and had to download ml onto that card and I was pleasantly surprised. You used to have to do this thing to the card manually (making it bootable or some shit), it just does it for you now.

Magic lantern is so worth it for the bracketing and better iso control alone. Turning the AGC off is great too if all you use is the on board mic. Then you have useful shit like magic zoom, finer shutter speed increments, easier control of white balance, bulb timer, and an intervalometer just to name a few. Don't worry about your camera getting bricked, just don't bee a fool and install it incorrectly.

ML is only compatible with tamron super zoom lenses, didn't you get a 17-50 in the end? don't waste your time with ML on one of those

There's nothing to debate about dude, don't worry about it your camera will be fine. When you turn on the camera you can choose to boot ml or the regular cannon software. The control you get with ml is absolutely lovely.

honestly if you have a t2i/60d/whatever else uses magic lantern and don't have it, you really need to get it. I'm not sure why people are so paranoid about it, you can install it in literally 20 seconds and it gives you so many options. The menu is super easy to learn and the software itself only goes onto the SD card, you can always reboot back to the original software. To me, the best thing is the kelvin white balance-- no more presets, I choose the color I'm looking for

Check this out. It'll tell you what you need to know. To sum it up: it's a firmware hack that you load onto your SD card and is read by the camera. It opens up all kinds of doors that make the camera much more versatile as a video camera. Check out the link, that's where you'll find all the juicy details.

just downloaded it, very easy to install, just started to mess around with it and im a very stoked on the trap focus, flowwow focus using the arrows, and waving inforint of the lcd screen sensor to take a picture, , more to explore, im loving it already!

pictures are coming out nice and i seem to be having a problem with video, it may just be me, but it seems the whit balance is off, and the video looks really grainy and red, not sure what to do if it was ml doing this or what?

Yeah, just mess with your WB/color settings a bit. You click through temperatures, so find an appropriate Kelvin setting. The "select" button ups the temperature, the "play" button lowers it...assuming our editions of ML are the same/similar.

Meh, the only thing really that useful is the iso ranges, agc and rerouting to a dep. Theres some other features that are cool, but you can still get good shots without it.

The newest version is really reliable though, it almost never has any bugs.

those three things are incredibly useful though? as are zebras. Its free. Literally no reason to shoot on a Canon DSLR without Magic Lantern

^^Kelvin white balance, AGC disable, crop bars, intervalometer, sound meter, waveform, histogram, etc. This shouldnt even be a question. Like crotch killer said, its free and its hard to fuck up, so do it.

Histograms and Zebras make the BIGGEST difference IMO. It's impossible to judge exposure with the human eye and a LCD screen, even if you have a loupe. I never used histograms before until i got my fs100 and i tell you what, 95% of the time my exposure is spot on.

if you have any of the cameras avaible to do ML you have to do it, there no bugs, its super easy to download and helps sooo much, in my videos i use the zebra to get the prefectly exposed shots, i use histograms to be exact, i also use to folloow focus with the arrows, it helps so much, also if your in a rush and you need to get the shot quickly, you can auto expse of all of your videos and photos buy hitting the q button in legit under 30 seconds, it alos gives you a white balance quick mode so you dont have to, it may not be perfect but you can use the wheel to do it in under a second and your shots perfectly lit, hope this helps!

maybe im retarded or something, but i have been trying to install this for the past 2 hours and cant get it.
here is what i did

>low level format of memory card
>updated my firmware to version 1.09
>downloaded latest release of ML off their website
>put all the files into the root of memory card, beside MISC and DCIM


what have i missed?
