So last night i was hanging out with my pals, ya know, normal friday night. Around 1130 or so, i get a call from a "restricted number." So i'm all, oh great a bunch 7th graders attempting to prank call me so they can go to school the next week and brag about how they messed with high schoolers. I answer so i can troll them so hard, but instead of whiny pre pubescent voices i begin to hear an automated voice. The voice begins with something along the lines of, "Hello. You have been contacted by the RAAA for the illegal downloading of music" or something like that. I listen for a bout 10 seconds and freak out. Not too long ago, some guy was being sued about $25,000+ PER SONG he downloaded. (probably not the exact price, but it was a lot). So this is where the scary part happens. Over the course of a few months, I may or may not have downloaded a movie, maybe 50 songs, and Final Cut Pro X. So the other day i go to my computer to start editing my season edit. FCPX is gone. Like you know when you click on an icon on mac and the little question mark appears on top of it? That's what happened. Same with my UTorrent app. So that's why i was super freaked out. First my downloaded apps were acting up, then i get a strange call directly relating to my previous actions. I was scared out of my mind.
Turns out it was all a prank call. First of all, a restricted phone call at 1130? Most likely a bunch of loser middle schoolers. Also, i noticed it said "the RAAA." This is a made up acronym that is a parody of the RIAA, which is like the MPAA for music. I also found that it was just an audio recording on some prank calls website where you enter the victim's phone number.
Sparknotes: Get sketchy call about music piracy and freak out, only to realize i just got prank called.
