Fixed Gear

This is a thread devoted to fixed gear bicycles. Anyone on here ride them? Post what you use for parts and pictures of your bike(s).

I just finished mine the other day, I currently have the following:
Kenda 700c white tires ($24.99 Amazon)
Peugeot 61cm frame and fork ($30.00 off Craigslist)
Original 170mm silver and black crank ($60 on Amazon, awesome deal, strong, and looks sick)
18 tooth cog rear wheel and a front wheel (not sure on models) ($50 for pair)
Brand new Peugeot bottom bracket ($50)
Easton white grips ($9.99)
Straight bar handlebar (Free)
Older Cannondale front brake (Free)
=224.98 in total

I sanded down the bike and repainted the frame black and the fork white. I have chrome accents where the chrome was originally on the bike. I will post a picture as soon as I find my memory card reader.I am really digging the bike and biking around Burlington, VT. One thing I do suggest is not buying an older french frame as parts tend to be pricy and hard to find (ex:$50 bottom bracket, it was 15 for a japanese one)

i perfer gears there is no practical reason to have a fixed except less things to break, idk what hipsters say they are basicaly usless, cool you have no breaks, cool you have one gear...

Personally i have a fixie because mine is built for freestyle. They are incredibly fun to huck around, and i know, i know, Bmx bikes wippee, my bike kicks ass for commuting too. so suck my dick

Or you could just get a freehub single speed with a back v brake. Also, fixie does not not mean single speed. It means fixed hub.

There isn't really a practical reason to skiing anymore is there?
Sometimes the impractical is the most practical for fun.
I enjoy it, I like the feeling of being connected with the rear wheel,
I like skidding through traffic and balancing at stops,
I have no brakes, i have one gear, and that's all i really need.

Anyone that doesn't use a front break is straight up retarded. Even if you have skidding down to a science, you cant generate enough friction to get stopped at speed to avoid much of anything. Unless you have a really small ratio that prevents you from going fast in the first place, its not practical

This. The only reason that i have a front brake is to slow down quicker in traffic. I was almost hit by a car pulling out that didnt see me. Having the brake stopped me from being hit. My bike is awesome for commuting around town and awesome exercise. You dont stop pedeling and keeps your legs constintly moving. I recomend actually riding one before you shit on other people for doing it. Im pretty rollarblading is fucking impractical but why do a vast majority of people do it? I personaly skateboard but dont hate on all u that blade. End mobile rant

Rear is a 700c, fronts a 26, even with the forks, 700c still hit on barspins. i like the offset, feels good for skids, more stable IMO.

don't really care for fixed gears but they can be alright. why would you ever buy kenda tires though?! also to the guy saying they are impractical. yes I don't really like fixies or the cultural aspects surrounding them. however, NYC bike messengers started the "trend" b/c they are practical for that type of riding in big FLAT cities. b/c you only have one gear you can accelerate very quickly and maintain a good speed without keeping an absurdly high cadence. thus fixies are good for hard riding (bike messengers) in big flat cities; like NYC. all those moronic fixie riding hipsters in places like San Francisco are just trend whores who are destroying their knees. /rant

I've been contemplating purchasing a fixie for a while but for now I remain faithful to my hard tail mtb covered in cotton tape to appear cheap and shitty.

Not a huge fan of freestyle fixies... but I still accept them

I used to have a Skinny Benny American Flyer, with Deep V's, and some other stuff I dont remember at the moment.

Currently getting ready to do a new build based off a Leader frame, to be my main mode of transportation, other than when it rains, so then I have my car.

Love my trackbike. So much more fun to ride then my other bikes. For those who are hating, whatever, I get more joy riding my fixed gear then I do on any other bicycle. SUPER FUN!
Its a track frame with SOMA wheels and hubs, Dura-ace cranks, and 17t / 51t cog and chainring. Love it!

Im in a bit of a pickle. I bought my fixed gear for $250. I found a guy that wants to buy it for $245, and thats a good deal, and I'd put the money towards a black market riot that I found locally for a good deal. I don't really ride street of dirt jumps, and doubt I'll ever get really good at it, but thought it might be fun. But I love riding my fixed gear, its a ton of fun, and if I sell it I wouldn't really have anything thats great for running errands or long rides, which it turns from a boring car ride to a fucking adventure and a good way to stay in shape.

Im just looking for some insight. yeah, I get sick of the hipster comments which Im clearly not and know Its not doing my knees any favors. But I've got a little love for the thing
