how should i fix this?

so i went to wax my frnt's last night, and i noticed that there's a depression on the base, about 6'' long and maybe 1/2'' wide, next to the edge in the toepiece area (does that make sense?). this isn't really going to affect the ski on snow, the depression leaves just the tiniest bit of the backside of the edge exposed, and i'm kinda scared that this could get fucked up bad if i hit a rail the wrong way. should i take it in for a base grind, or could this possibly be warrantied? also, wax doesn't stick in the depression and that might fuck my bases up

if that didn't make sense, here's another try at an explanation: imagine someone took a knife and scraped a layer of your base off next to the edge. i'd post pics but my camera is MIA.

i dunno take it to a shop they will prob have to base weld it

i would think the 4 frnts would be strong enough to take it but it might break shit plus it will slow you down i believe

i would at least try and see if 4frnt might warrenty it.

see the problem is i live in fort collins, and i bought them in silverthorne, which is a good 2+ hours away from me, and i don't know when i'm gonna have the time. i'm pretty sure a base grind will fix it though (and i can get one done here in town). i'd almost feel guilty if they sent me a new pair of skis, but i suppose it would be worth a shot, i guess it would be a viable warranty issue if the base grind didn't work

Since wax insn't sticking in it, you might just wanna go for a base weld, rather than grinding down the base and losing some of your edge thickness.

id say ptex, but if wax isnt sticking then i dont know if the ptex would either
just go to a local shop and see what they say, then u can worry about getting them warrantied if the shop cant do anything

where the base is pulling away from the edge is it all the way down to the metal or the core? cause if it is the skis starting to delaminate or something and when you ski on it its just gonna keep geting worse and worse. id try taking to the shop and ask them if they think they can fix it id also talk with 4frnt and see if it is warrented

^no no, theres just like 1/2mm of the base kind of divoted out, no edge damage, no base damage, i didn't do it hitting a stump or anything it just kind of happened. the only thing i'm worried about is if i hit a rail and the rail caught the 1/2mm of exposed edge and just ripped it right the fuck out (and killed me at the same time)

I vote baseweld/ptex fill. Realbalance WAS real good at them. What shop do you use in fort?

i just took them to outpost....yeah real balance was alright until they shut down, i wish i could have got some custom orthos from them but oh well. except they told me 4frnt's suck ass and troublemakers (the only twins they carried) are the best, most durable rail skis ever made. ha.

they're gonna do an edge tune and just hit that edge real hard. like i said it's not even deep enough to ptex. hopefully that works, because i don't think it's worthy of a warranty return plus i just paid $20 that i can't really afford right now for the edge and wax

Go and buy some Ptex. Burn it and let the Ptex drip and fill the hole, then scrap the excess Ptex off with metal scraper.
