Suing someone, or something, is a national pastime to a certain large group of visitors that this Canadian website sees every single day. Jokes are made about it, people rage, people defend actions or dismiss them completely. In the end, we're looking at suing through a very slanted lens - mostly the more notorious cases are highlighted, be they for better or worse. At least on the skiing side of things, lawsuits are seen as horrific and the reason we can't have nice things. It's not a strictly one-sided cultural phenomenon, as it is spreading all around the globe in both serious and dubious instances.
So I ask you, denizens of NS, have you, would you, will you or do you know someone who has sued someone for anything, but mostly in this case for monetary compensation? Be it a real case, a falsified claim, a strike for "opportunity" or something else?
Umm, yeah. There are a lot of corners cut in our judiciary system when it comes to penalizing those who should serve time for bad deeds done vs. those who are stuck between a rock and a hard place. A person going bankrupt and misfiling a few tax documents can look at serving 10+ years while a serial rapist can walk after serving half of their 1 year lenient sentence. Our justice system uses a lot of (undermining?) factors when it comes to violence, abuse, even murder - financial crimes are the cream of the crop when it comes to long sentences, often in quite controversial cases.
Don't walk the high road here, buddy. We all know you're a lawyer, share your insights rather than trying to trample others down. But let's keep this about suing as you said.
It's my money And I Want It Now! Yeah I'll sue someone if I think it's their fault that I got screwed. I should have grounds for a malpractice lawsuit but the cost of getting into is is terrifying. It's a tough call, maybe I should find those guys that say you don't pay Til we settle.
Interesting happening coming from my province. Heard on the radio that the girl ate some of the moose shit, got it stuck in here braces, then puked all over. They don't make mention of the puke in the article. Still some messed up stuff and there is a lot of talk about suing in the comments. Here is the article:
