Replying to Which lens t3i?

I've managed to find a t3i really cheaply, And I'll probably get that in a few months, but I was wondering what lens would be best with it? I'll just be shooting skiing really(photos and videos). I don't need a really wide angle lens, I think probably a 17-50 or thereabouts, I don't really need a major zoom lens either so I'd say 17-50 would be best for me. But I was wondering which lens would be good? and why, Really could do with auto focus because I'll be giving it to people to shoot with that haven't used it before. Would prefer a cheap lens, definately nothing like $400
