Which lens t3i?

I've managed to find a t3i really cheaply, And I'll probably get that in a few months, but I was wondering what lens would be best with it? I'll just be shooting skiing really(photos and videos). I don't need a really wide angle lens, I think probably a 17-50 or thereabouts, I don't really need a major zoom lens either so I'd say 17-50 would be best for me. But I was wondering which lens would be good? and why, Really could do with auto focus because I'll be giving it to people to shoot with that haven't used it before. Would prefer a cheap lens, definately nothing like $400

^That, there are literally a thousand threads in M/A already asking the exact same question, this is a useless thread. Searchbar + google (There are tons of reputable review sites with 100x crops of pretty much ever lens every made) and if for some reason you still need help then create a thread.

50, 35, 135, or maybe an old 80-200

this is good too, but if he wants to be able to hand it all around, he may be better off with the tamron. A nikon 35mm f2 ai-s (I think thats the one a few people on here have) would be great for learning photography though, because it would be similar to a 50mm. That or a 24, but last I checked 24's were pretty expensive

I wish companies would make a true 50mm equivalent for crop sensors camera's, granted anyone who wants a 50mm will most likely eventually go full frame, but still. 28 is to wide, 35 is too close, sigma's 30mm is the closest out there with a 48 mm equivalent. A true 50mm would have to be a 31.25mm lens.

gh2 has a 2x crop, so a 24mm is really close, and I have a leica 25mm which I love. There is some confusion about the crop though, because the sensor is oversize and it uses a different portion of the sensor for each aspect ratio

^that last part made no sense, but I think it's because it has nothing to do with photography and I'm clueless when it comes to video tech stuff.

micro four thirds is a 2x crop from full frame. The gh2 has a sensor that is slightly larger than a regular micro four thirds sensor, and because of this, it can use different portions for different aspect ratios. this picture may help.

however, many people ignore/don't realize this, and calculate the crop factor by the physical measurements of the sensor, which leads them to believe it is a 1.86x crop. as far as i know, it is a 2x (because only certain parts are used in each aspect ratio). it took me a while to understand this, because the people at preview are still arguing about it and saying how it affects depth of field etc.
