DSLR users, What format do you use to edit videos in Premiere?

I was just curious to find out what video format you use to edit in Premiere? do you just use the h.264 or do you convert to something else? why? How do you guys go from camera to editing program?

I remember reading somewhere that for final cut, it goes something like:
Download videos from camera
Convert to Apple ProRes
Import to final cut

Is there something similar for premiere?

PS: I have Premiere CS5 and I film with a 60d. And I did search so if I missed something, please point me in the right direction.

sometimes I'm lazy and just import straight into an intra-100 timeline, but I am in the process of coming up with a new workflow. Currently downloading different programs and seeing what I like, what gives good quality, time etc.

Premiere CS5 and up natively supports h.264, regardless it will never be a great codec to edit. However, unless you have a camera that can record to AVC like the GH2, theres not much to do. But yeah you only have to convert in FCP, not premiere.

Premiere is like 50000 times simpler; it asks you what format you want to use in your timeline (in your case, there is a format that says 'DSLR 720p60' or DSLR '1080p24' etc that you use) and just like that, you're set. No codec conversions

Premiere Pro is incredibly simple to use in regards to choosing format, which is awesome!

If you aren't sure what format to use, don't worry. When the initial screen comes up, and asks you what format your footage is in (there will be a ton of options), simply pick a random one if you are not sure and then once you reach the main editing screen, import a clip from your camera.

Once you have done this, drag this clip into the "NEW SEQUENCE" tab, which should be just below your imported clips, and Premiere Pro will automatically create a sequence that matches the exact format of your footage, which is awesome, and then you can start editing!
