HELP, I dont trust myself.

Ok, so last season i broke my fks brake which sucked. so yesterday i decided to just mess with it, then i realized that i can go brake less. I tried to do this, and i took it apart perfectly, then i wondered if the release pressure was ruined.

So is there anyone who can help me put it together, maybe like step by step, itll save me like 400 bucks. also- when i did this, i didnt include the spring thing that goes under the brake. And the bottom plastic baseplate thing ( that goes under the metal one) is broken. is that a major problem?

And you're saying that shipping them back to Rossignol to get a new brake was going to cost you $400? Last I heard that's how you get new FKS brakes.

I don't think going brake less is such a great idea. It's actually really dangerous as the ski can dash through the snow, catch a little bump and then the ski turns into spear; ready to go though some guy's head.

Ok, so i reassembled mine, but i didnt put the spring which adds pressure to the brakes. is that fine? and also the plastic base plate under the metal is cracked in half, is that a important part.

The spring is important, but you can pop your boot in and ride it. Expect for the brakes to be loose, not work (which can result in your pass getting pulled if you get caught at some resorts), and expect to catch the arms on your skis or pants. It really sucks.

The broken baseplate is a game over however. Depending on where its cracked, it could mean that your binding isn't held in by the heel screws, and the whole thing could come apart if you stress it - aka, if you ski on it. Your bindings are broken and unsafe - either find a way to replace the broken or missing parts or buy a new set. Choice is yours I guess, $100 for a new or used set of bindings or risk paying a lot more for a tab at a hospital.

If you're riding with no brake arms then the brake spring doesn't matter, it's just there to force the brake arms down when there's no boot clicked in.

The plastic baseplate is the part that sucks about turntables. They brake very easily; this is why I stopped using FKS after braking 9 of them. If it's just a crack, keep riding it until it gets worse. Eventually it'll disintegrate more and your forward pressure will go light. You can get new complete heel units (minus the dildos) from Rossi - get your shop to order some if you're actually concerned.

You need those parts. I would contact Rossignol and have them fix it. I wouldn't go brakeless either - bad shit happens.
