Anyone into fishing?

Im looking at doing some striper fishing this summer and it would be helpful to know what gear would be the most adequate to get. To those of you who live in the vicinity of the ocean and have experience with specifically stripers/sturgeon what advice/tips do you have for me? Is it better to do it with or without a boat, etc? Help me out guys!

boat>land for obvious reasons its also more fun but i dont do much ocean fishing, other than spear fishing. mostly lakes/rivers.

use a boat, and go at sunrise or sunset. (by sunrise i mean about 5:30) not sure where u live so i could not give any bait or location reccomentations but have fun!

What are the areas that you are looking to fish in? Marshes, salt fresh water mix river (brackish), river mouths, dams, beach etc.
What state?
I am from New England and the best time to go is during the morning and evening. I go on a river that stretches 4 miles inland from the ocean until it reaches a dam, this is brackish water, salt and fresh water mixed. At 6am-8am or 6pm-8pm there tends to be no wind during those times so it creates that "glass" like water which makes it easy to see the schools of stripers feeding (they typically feed at these times). Stripers use their tails to stun their prey, so what I usually use are poppers. As you reel it in you slightly jerk the rod back just a little so it creates a splash. This lure mimics a fish that is wounded and 80% of the stripers I catch are with poppers. Go for floating lures because they will be easier to use for the first few times. When I take my friends fishing who don't go often we use poppers because its easy and much more exciting. Another good time is to go at night on the beach "surf casting." Not as familiar with this style of fishing but a lot of guys catch huge fish doing this. The downside is that its harder to catch the fish because its at night and you can't locate the schools, you need bait, certain equipment and constantly battle surf.

I fish some in RI and we use live eels, clam tongues, and sometimes jerkbaits for stripers. I would recommend a local bait/tackle shop for advice.

I have a house in Montauk, NY and can tell you while I am not the big fisher in the family, it is THE best for striper fishing. I know when we go out we go out with the boat The Masterpiece. Great Captain, he knows what he's doing and will get you fish consistently.

most important thing is samiches. lots and lots of samiches. it wouldnt even kill you to bring a nice young lady along to make you and your friends samiches.

Steel wire on your reel and 9er lure on your line. Troll at 3 mph and it will mimic a school of mackerel. The set up expensive but I garentee it will catch fish

Maine and I have a ton of different options as far as spots, but mainly just marshes and beaches. One spot that I have been looking at is a peninsula of rocks that extends off of a beach about 100 ft or so.

Yeah but I would definitely be going from around 6pm to sunset, usually you can see some decent sized ones jumping out of the water too. Last summer I went out a few times and used mackeral for bait but I would probably be using mostly lures. What size line do you use?

I am from the 207 as well...anyway I use 12 pound line. Mackeral is good for that type of fishing and rock structures host a lot of fish.

What beaches? I fish the Saco River and Old Orchard Beach.

man, i want to talk fishing but you've given me a very limited scope. the only striper/sturgeon experience i have is sturgeon fishing on ice.

This is me a few years back on the Togiak river in Alaska catching some king and some northern pike. Going back up next summer with my grandpa it'll probably be his last time I can;t wait. Fishing is great.
