When and why did you start skiing?

I know most of you probably grew up skiing at like age 3 but for me it was just 2 or 3 trips a year and that was it. What made you want to take it to the next level? For me it was a pow day at alta which just made me think woah I want more of this and ever since then im up on the mountains pretty constantly, what made you guys actually start skiing?

13. Some people might disagree, but to me skiing had a better atmosphere than snowboarding (I snowboard 2 years prior).

Far more boarders have a shitty, rude, immature personality than skiers, at least at my hills. Not to mention dress far more gangster and look like fuckin goofs. L

i was 4, my parent made me do ski school, and i hated it, they tried to make me do race team when i was 13, but i turned to park and big mountain riding.

Just because you were a developmentally retarded child doesn't mean that the rest of us were. I definitely started skiing when I was two and I've seen plenty of other two year olds at my mountain.

4 years old...went on a ski trip with a local sports team i was on.  my family went and i'm pretty sure it was everyone's first time.  after that my sister started going on ski trips with her girl scout troop and my mom would go along as a chaperone.  mama dukes got real into it and started taking me and my sister on trips almost every weekend.  by the age of 10 i was a full blown addict.  now i'm a full-time ski bum and i pretty much do whatever it takes to feed my addiction...just chasing that dragon

It was in the 9th grade; one of my good friends was really good at skiing, and I would always watch his videos and want to be able to do what he did so bad, so I decided I had to start. I had always skied with my family, but just sporadically, and the 9th grade was when I started skiing everyday!

I actually win with 18 months, I was put in a back pack thing at the age of 6 months. My parents met a ski resort in New York called Hunter Mountain and that's what I am named after. They later moved to Utah where I was born and learned how to ski at Alta because my dad worked there for the first 13 years of my life.

7th. grade. My Dad took me to Holiday Hill / Mountain High.
I loved it. In 9th. grade I joined the ski club at my school. I brought home a flyer to go on a trip and my Dad paid for it!! I brought home every flier from the club after the first trip and proceeded to go on every ski club trip during High School.

I agree with Wskier. You did not "learn" to ski at 23 months. Your parents brought you to the hill and held you between their legs for a run or two.

Like, the skiers are a 7/10 on the hood rat scale and the boarders are 12/10 kind of thing. Not a lot of young teen skiers though at my hills, no high schools around so I guess that's why

I was in 3rd grade and my dad signed my younger brother and I up for lessons and I have been going hard ever since. Minus a 3 year tenure of boarding after which I decided to switch back to skiing again

I been Aggressive Blading since 1996 on and off because of winter or women or both. In the winter on 2011-12 I decided to pick up Skiing, even though alot of my friends snowboard and they blade in the warmer months.

around 13, I had snowboarded a year before and I liked it, but oneday I walked into a Wal Mart to pick up a snowboarding magazine, and they had none, then a Freeskier magazine caught my eye. I read it for a bit and was like "this is way sicker than snowboarding" and sat in Wal Mart for an hour reading it. I instantly wanted to switch to skiing after that. So the season after (10/11 I thin) I bought a ski setup and was hooked.

3 years old. It was a family thing I guess. Never looked back! My first memory of skiing is being attached to a leash skiing between my dad's legs going down a tree run in the Alps :)

I started skiing around 21 or 22 so I could get drunk and slide around on snow with friends.  I gaped it up bigtime for probably 3 seasons and the rest is history. 

SUPER jelly of all you people whose family skis and who started at like 2.

3 years old. Parents did backcountry, moved to a bigger town got into racing, said fuck that started taking photos in the park realized what was up and started learning park this year!
