No idea why, but for whatever reason, I love the feeling of seeing the jump a competition is going to be on. It's like the biggest part of the competition to me.

I'm stoked for it, he was invited (front page article) and I still have faith that he can kill it, maybe not this soon, but next year, he will dominate!

Hes not done... you kids are so dumb... Tanner is a fucking boss. If he wanted to compete in big air, hed be doing triples with legitness with in a week.. you have no idea how much talent and tenacity  that guy  has .. respect youre fucking elders... and don't hate on some one that loves skiing way more than you ever will ...Tanner is the boss , and hes a chill dude.. in person..

It always bums me out to see people hate on Tanner. Frankly I kind of see him as Franklin from Arrested Development, he just says some shit that skiers are ready to hear.

lol ... He may be good, but hes also got a body that is not as resilient as an 18-24 year old's and he certainly could not be doing triples with legitness with in a week... If he could , we would certainly see some badass footy from him , and not the super mellow shit he has put out in the last year.

dude i don't think anyone is disrespecting t hall at all.
he's just had some of the most gnarly injuries in the past few years, and i'm honestly surprised at how fast he got back to skiing and boosting in the pipe...but after injuries like those i don't see him doing crazy big airs like this and sending triples, it just doesn't seem smart. if he does, well then that's pretty badass.

you also seem to take comments about pros very personally, you're kind of ridiculous.

I understand that he has gone through some horrific shit. but really, to say he is done? no way. The dude is an animal (a lion). he will recover on his own time, and at his own rate. You'd think you would want a pioneer of the era to be successful, rather than jump down his throat. One should be praising and aiding the recovery of Tanner, rather than dismissing him.

Promote the industry, promote the pros, promote the NSers and promote the Gapers. All of them have to exist for skiing to be as magical as it is today.

I'm pretty much over it. He's a good skier, he's a superstar in our sport, whatever, but if anything, we should be able to joke about him. There's a hint with all of you guys taking insults and jokes about Tanner and other pros these days a little too personally.

I don't know what your definition of resilient is, but mine would be a guy who breaks both ankles: comes back to ski and dominate. Add to that guy who busts both knees to pieces: comes back to ski is a miracle itself and domination we'll have to wait and see. If not the competition scene you better be sure he'll be destroying the BC which is what I like to see him do nowadays and is a natural progression for him.

Have you read the posts in this thread?? People are calling him a washed-up blowhard, saying his career is over and that he'll hit the jump once and run his mouth on camera. That's not disrespect?
I don't care if anyone disrespects "pros." But I do care if someone disrespects a legend who has devoted his life to the sport. I don't take it personally. I'm just annoyed by it. Just like I'm annoyed by any other kind if ignorance. Like the kids talking shit on his Timberline edit. They don't get the context. They just judge it against every other edit they see. That doesn't bother you at all?

of course you should be able to joke about T Hall. he is one of the more ridiculous skiers in the sport. maybe the most ridiculous. but he's also one of the greatest. the posts that people get worked up about are the ones that are completely dismissive of him (he's washed up, his edits suck, all he can do now is talk shit).

Clearly a guy who is 18 will recover faster then a guy who is 29 . Im sure Tanner can tell you that when he was younger he was able to put up with more physical abuse and recover faster then he can now. And thats just how aging works - nothing against tanner.


And I hope he makes a full recovery and destroys the BC too, dont get me wrong , I think hes a hero for skiing and I wish him the best. But I just thought it was silly how it was said that "he cud be doing triples in weeks" or how people still think he could be on the US olympic halfpipe team. If you watch recent footy of Tanner you can easily tell he is not the same skiier as he once was, and will not be able to compete and dominate like he did in his prime.

tanner can and will do whatever the hell he wants.

he doesn't give a shit about haters.

he isn't done. he may decide after this summer that his competitive pipe days are over, but he still makes pipe skiing LOOK better than anyone else. other than maybe torin or kevin, no one comes close to him in their ability to consistently land in transition. not to mention his shiftys are unmatched.

if he decides his competitive career is done, he's still gonna produce backcountry segments for the foreseeable future... i already know about some of the ridiculous shit he stomped at retallack this year, and he's only getting stronger and more confident with a full year of injury-free skiing under his belt.

but i'm kind of surprised that you're surprised by these comments...it's newschoolers we're on right now. it is ridiculous that people are hating on a legend, but come on...it's teenagers saying these things while hiding behind a computer. would t hall care that some 17 year old is calling him washed up on the internet? i doubt it...he's living it up and skiing way more than anyone on ns could ever dream of, even with his time off from injuries.

also most likey lots of these kids weren't even into skiing for all of tanner's career like i'm assuming you have been...so obviously they don't get the context.

The reality of the situation is that T-Hall could walk away from jumps, and pipe all together. Just film BC, and still be more relevant than most skiers out there.

Because he can actually ski.

i'm not surprised.... like you said, this is NS. but i'm still annoyed. perhaps i'm just a crotchety old man. however, this site could use a few more crotchety old men to provide the context that these younger shit-talkers are missing. i agree with most of what you said, but there are different levels of context. i don't expect these kids to know the deeper context (e.g., that T Hall pretty much did the first legit presses and nollies), but i do expect them to know when a legend is coming back from an injury and just jammin' at Timberline.
