I need help getting into skateboarding.

this summer i want to learn how to skateboard because i think it will make me look cooler. my issue is that the only things i know about skateboarding come directly from tony hawk games, which apparently arent the most realistic demonstration of the sport, so now i turn to the 16 year old dope smoking, loitering, vandalizing skaters of NS to help me out. so im going to start at the top and work my way down with questions and such, and you guys explain to me how much of a gayfagnoob i am.

- protection: in the bedroom, i dont use condoms, i use fake names. while shredding on the streets, however, im guessing its probably a better idea to suit up for battle, but how much? i have a helmet, and might have a single wrist guard floating around my moms house. anything else i should get?

- shoes: do i really need skate shoes? i have a pair of simple toemorrows (http://www.sportiela.com/store/image.php?type=T&id=18117) that i used to longboard in, but they are beat to shit and probably wont be too helpful, but im not sure what will be.

- deck: until about 4 days ago i was under the impression that all skateboards were the same size and shape, so clearly i could use a push in the right direction. when i was about 11 my grandma bought me a shirt that said element on it, and i thought that was pretty cool. ive also been told that i can jsut get a blank deck for a lot cheaper, but will that be wicked shitty?

-trucks: i know absolutely nothing about this.

-bearings: ive got a bunch of MTB bearings kicking around my garage, can i use some of those on a skatebaord?

-wheels: much like about trucks, i know very little about this.


more information: im a college student getting paind 7.5 dollars and hour, and most of that needs to fund drugs and booze. therefore, im trying to keep my budget on this as low as possible while still providing a decent set up. ill mostly be riding in the streets because my local skatepark is a shit hole and costs 3 dollars to get in. also, im not sure if this is at all relevant, but i used to be unusually good at fingerboarding. i contemplated getting sponsored at one point, but then i pulled my head out of my ass and got a girlfriend instead.

it occurs to me that my dimensions might be useful.
height: 6'2
weight: 145ilbs
penis length: 6.75" depending on the weather

I'm sorry but you shouldn't skate so you can look cooler. As for your skateboard issue Head to your local shop. Don't use the interweb, and stay out of big indoor pay to ride parks until you get good. And don't try to be a "skater" kids will usually hate. Hope it helps. Also, hold onto a bench when learning to kickflip :)

well for shoes i wear a pair of vans classics that work fine. you really need a shoe with a flat sole that can hold up well or you will just be buying shoe after shoe.

skateboard- preference is alien workshop moonpop, they make good durable boards and they graphic is sick.

bearing and wheels- i prefer to use spitfire, but if you want to go faster take out the front rings of the bearings.

trucks- i like independent, just the basic truck.

if you want to ride around and go fast i would tighten your trucks so you cant turn alot. i prefer a looser truck whenever i ride around in the park and stuff but alot of people hate that.

oh and get any griptape.

Just go get a full ser up for like 100 buckers at zumies if you don't have a local shop. Shoes don't really matter. Pads besides a helmet dont really matter. Just practice pushing and mannuals at first then try shit like ollies and that sort of fuckery

For your first setup your going to need like 60 bucks, and you should be able to get a decent board

-mini logo bearings ($10)
-bargin bin deck ( you can get older model decks at most skete shops for 25 bucks)
- get some hard wheels (like 20 bucks maybe)
- speed demon trucks (another 20-25 )

okay, thats a little more than 60 bucks, but seriously get the cheapest stuff you can.

Nothing much to say about boards and that because it depends on you. Go with something simple, 8 inches minilogo if you want dont want to spend that much, but you should definitely invest on your trucks because they are going to last.
Since it is going to be your first board, i would buy a good skate, it will last and its better to learn with something good rather than a piece of shit.

Just go skateboarding everyday, doesnt matter how long, skate everyday. That way you will get used to the felling and you will improve greatly, thats the best piece of advice I can give you.

I think this is what fucked me over with my ankle, I was wearing Reg Hightop Nike Dunks. also MAKE SURE YOU TIE YOUR SHOES TIGHT. my shoes were loose as fuck. thats what everyone told me to do after the fact.

i'd say most of the stuff on there is legit. 8.0-8.5 inch deck, shoes that feel comfy and are made for skating, and everything else doesn't matter too much

and this isnt a troll, im actually trying to start skating

and im not actually doing it just to look cool

and i dont have a local skateshop. there is a sports store that sells some skateboards but there selection is limited. maybe i just have to go a little farther to find one.

Just got back into skating and i can only land fakie 3 shov, varial, kickflip, 180, pop shove..and that shit...I feel like i fucking suckk when i go to the skatepark and it makes me not wanna skate anymore.

But i just bought a brand new board so i might as well keep trying. But im at a spot where i cant land a fucking 360 flip no matter how hard i try and everyone makes em look hella easy.

well I'd reccomended learning how to just cruise around bowls and mini ramps, personally I think this is a less stressful way of skating, than trying to learn flip tricks and such.

im getting in to skateboarding too (no troll) because I found a skateboard in the garbage at my school that works just fine.
the only thing that sucks about it is that the trucks are pretty loose even though i've tightened them as tight as they would possibly go [they're kind of rusty] and that the deck is kind of small for my size 14s.

i've come to the conclusion that skateboarding is hard. i started about a week ago and so far the only things i've picked up are shitty ollies, shove its, 360 shove its [not moving], and front 180s.

but it's a fun way to pass the summertime I guess. running wasn't cutting it.

Skate as much as you can and you'll be surprised by how you progress. My experience is that skateboarding progression comes in plateaus. I'll try new tricks over and over again and they'll be really inconsistent, then one day I'll wake up and the muscle memory is there and I'm sticking every one. So when you feel like you're stuck and not progressing, remember that every second you spend on your board is adding to your skill and the tricks will come. What's also really cool after you progress a certain amount is that the tricks build on each other, so you'll progress more quickly the more you learn. My number one piece of advice on skating is to get on your board every day. Even if you can't leave your house just stand on it. If you do that, there's no way you won't start throwing down fairly quickly.
