Okay so I was just wondering for my summer setup on some material, Is there anything wrong with using carpet and spraying it with water and then skiing on that?
I use regular floor carpet for my in ramp. As long as its a hard "mat" sort of carpet it will slide decent. I found that a light dusting of arena snow (I live in Canadia so theres hockey year round) really helps.
But artificial turf and orange fencing is probably your best bet. I only used carpet cause i had a bunch of scrap from a reno.
You may need soap, so venture off and buy a big ol' bottle, depending on how much you'll use. Soaping it up is pretty necessary, even with the turf ramp my buddy's got.
I´l just borrow this thread a little. I am confused, when I google astroturf I get all sorts of results. Should I use the plastic kind or the one that looks like a carpet? I´m thinking the plastic one right now
most "homemade" summer setups that i have ridden use the green outdoor carpeting/ astroturf stuff. it's pretty cheap and works well with soap and water
looks sketchy as fuck,i'd keep that for water ramps and shit like that, just buy green plastic turf(astro turf) at a home depot or some stores like that,it's cheap and it works really well
I had the same idea as you last summer, like haha all those shitheads buying astroturf im just gonna go to the dumpster and get some carpet for free. NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO it did not work at all. It is was to slow and that is even when i put soap and water on it. So i ripped it off and bought astroturf and put it on it works well. bottom line dont waste your time on carpet. Also plastic lattice fencing works well.
M-snow isn't that sketchy, but I know these kids and they make anything look sketchy. Also the jump is a bit big. I skied on M-snow at COC and it was fine, but it's too expensive to buy for a summer setup, as that one guy said before, pick up stiff outdoor carpet, it's cheap and works fine provided you use soap and water, or some other lubricant.
I use regular carpet on mine, works just fine. Wet it down and you shud be good to go. If its slow though you can through some snow fence down on top of the carpet, and it should speed it right up
