Whats more cost effective?

So right at the moment i have:
Nikon D5100
- Nikon 10.5mm Fisheye
- Tokina 11-16
- 55-200 Nikkor
- Glidecam HD1000
- Shitty tripod

I need an upgrade i was looking more at the Mic side but i dont have a good tripod.
I need your guys advice?

why would you buy anything you currently have before a good mid range walking around lens?

Yeah I just noticed this. OP sell your 10.5 and get a 17-50, you're missing what i would consider to be the most important range. Then later on sell the 55-200 and use the extra money from the 10.5 sale to get a better tele. I've used the 55-200 and it feels like im holding a matchbox car. Construction and image quality are some of the poorest I've seen from Nikon.

Definitely go with a tripod, what would you say your budget is for it?

Bad advice.

The 10.5 is one of the most epic Nikon lenses. Do not sell it.

Mid-range zooms are not very useful for skiing. With the excellent 10.5, 11-16 and a good tele you are set.

I would say your weak spot is that 55-200. If you choose to buy a new lens, I would replace that one. I've replaced mine with a used Tokina 50-135 f/2.8 and a Nikon 85mm f/1.8G. I wouldn't recommend the Tokina on a D5100 because it won't autofocus, but the 85mm is an inexpensive way to get astounding image quality.

And for a walkaround lens I would look at the 35mm f/1.8G first. It is what, $160? The 10.5 and 35 are where it pays off to be on Nikon...

i have the 10.5 as well and have used the 35 1.8 frequently because my brother has it. it's a great lens for the price, and fast!

I would also recommend the 35 1.8 (or similar). I have heard good things about it, and it provides a good "normal" perspective. You already have a UWA and a fisheye, and then after the 35 1.8, you should look into getting a 70-200

Yeh my mom has a 35. And its great. but i need a worthy tripod that will hold up, not the shitty one i won for .1$ on QUIBIDS. LOL

whats your budget? and if you want to cash in on the vx1 mk1, go to skateperception. Also are you doing primarily video or photo?

im on skateperception too. But you tell me not to familiar with tripods and brands of tripods. So tell me a pricepoint whats going to get me a good tripod, I shoot photo and video. But im more serious taking to the photo side./

video you want a fluid head. 300 minimum, but $530 will get you a scholar ace which is considered the minimum for good results. for photo you want a ballhead because it is more versatile. You can use a fluid head for video (though it can be tedious and the tripods are usually bigger and heavier), but you can't really use a ball head for video (you can for still shots obviously, but it won't give you smooth pans). Lastly, manfrotto makes a sort of photo/movie hybrid head, but I'm not sure how well that works

I said it was considered the minimum for good results, meaning dslr video. yes you can use a 701hdv, but if you want smooth pans at 200mm, the ace is seen as the minimum. Also, many of the manfrottos lack a leveling bowl, which is very convenient. it all depends on his budget, how serious he is, and whether he wants more photo or more video
