GoPros are really good for follow cams, povs, and close up filming, but they dont have a screen or zoom. A sony handy cam might be good or even a canon t3i if its in your price range
i know a lot of people are going to say t2i. so there's that obviously. as for a cheaper option, look into those handy cams from sony. those are cheap and seem to work well from what i've seen (i've never used them, just fyi) and you can get a cheap fisheye for it.
i have a Canon 60d, so thats kinda a no go if you're looking for something cheap.
head to best buy or something and check out what they have to offer. talk to the guys there and tell them what youre looking for and they can probably point you in the right direction. as much as i disdain corporations like best buy ive had a lot of good experience with them and their employees are really helpful.
check out the older canon vixias, like the hf200, hf20, or slightly newer ones like the hfs100. if you have a bit more money, you could try the panasonic tm700 or tm900
