What are my rights?

- Going to a state park this weekend to camp.
- Do the park rangers or police have the right to search my tent without my consent?

I know that if your on school grounds the school has the right to school your backpack etc.
Does the same apply here? Do they have the right to search my tent since I am in a state park?

Any help = k+

The cops can have the right to search anything they want.....With a search warrant, or probable cause

Probable cause can mean they smell drugs, a drug dog smells drugs, etc
A search warrant can be issued at anytime by a judge, some areas have judges that issue them at 3 in the morning

If the skatepark is not privately owned and it is public (town or city), then camping on it by itself does not qualify your tent a house, so, I believe the cops can do whatever they want

Don't take drugs and you'll be fine?

I doubt they'd have any real desire to search your tent...
and I bet they'd first ask you to leave if you did something wrong.

Finally, most park rangers are pretty "connected" with nature... ;)

Yes. Police can search just about anything if they have probably cause which includes smelling. If you bring weed make sure you do not give them a reason to be suspicious or the better alternative, don't bring drugs.

State park.

And that all depends on the rights of rangers vs. police. If they have the same abilities as police, then yes, If they have probable cause, they can search.

However, the amount of land that can feasibly be patrolled is pretty small, especially late at night. So just find some campground that's way out of the way (or if you're allowed to, just find your own place to camp), and you should be fine.

Why would the cops be searching your tent?

If you're planning on getting your tent searched you should probably reevaluate your game plan.

Well I can imagine that exhibiting behavior suggesting you could be drunk could be probable cause.

just dont bring drugs? either way i find it better to just be passive with cops rather than express my rights it just pisses them off more and they will try harder to find a way to arrest you or something.
