I saw City of God for the first time almost 3 years ago...and its still in the top 3 of my favorite movies of all time easily...possibly even #1. But even since seeing that I've been looking for movies like it, and I have found some close, but none quite as awesome, until last night.
Sin Nombre is fucking epic. I'm about to watch it again and I hardly ever watch movies twice within a year.
Its basically follows 2 different story lines until they eventually merge halfway through the movie.
One story is about a Honduran MS-13 gang member who runs into some problems in his neighborhood and ends up trying to get the fuck out of there, and the other story is about a sexy ass Honduran chick who decided to go to America with her long absent father...Lots of cool shit happens throughout and it gives awesome insight into what life is like down there and what people have to go through to just get to
America. You'll think twice about looking down on immigrants after you watch this (unless you're a cold motherfucker)
