K2 Recoil

I am looking at getting a pair of twin tips skis and like the K2 Recoils. I am an intermediate/advances skier and ski the whole mountain from top to bottom, on and off piste, groomers, park, natural drops etc. Can anyone tell me what these skis are like for all mountain use.
Also, i desperately need help with sizing. The longest they come in is 179cm and i am 195cm and 87kg (6ft 4 and 192lbs). Are these too short for me seen as how they are twin tips? And what effect will a shorter ski have? Your advice is much appreciated.

k2 skis do run longer than normal skis. Their 174=any other companies 179, and their 179 measures past a 182 salomon shogun.

I think they will be ok for you considering they are actually a 183 or 184. Plus they are a relatively stiff ski (by no means stiff though)

If you can demo them that would be good.

your closest alternative might be a 189 kung fujas. same sort of feel just wider. and in the length u need.

Thanks for the reply. If they do run longer then i think i will get them as i skied a pair of armada TST's in 185 last season and they were just right so if the recoil's are effectively the same length in 179 then i should be fine. I greatly appreciate the feedback.
Just another question, what are the effects (positive and negative) of a shorter ski??

positive:

switch ups quicker/less effort
spinning quicker/less effort
lighter (maybe)

negatives:
not as stable as a longer ski
especially with the 30% rocker they have, they will ski shorter
possible washouts on jumps because of the length

Honestly, the bigger the better. You feel so much more confident when hitting jumps having the reassurance of that extra tail length when landing back seat.

A shorter ski will be quicker at making tight turns and whipping around in the park, but will not be as stable at high speeds or on bigger jumps as a longer ski.

K2 does run long though in their park skis though, and most other companies run a bit shorter, so I think if a 185 armada worked for you you will be fine on a 179 K2.

Just to clarify though for anyone else reading this, K2 has (as far as I know) started making their pow skis true to size.

K2 measures their skis on contact length and not tip to tail length.

the recoil will feel longer on the snow than a tst. also a tst is weird for park with only a rockered tip. definitely will have more float in pow, but you are comparing two skis that are in different categories.

Totally agreed here. I have a pair of 174 Recoils, and they feel very park specific. They are tons of fun in the park, but i have a separate pair of all mountain skis that i use when i wanna ski moguls and such. Therefore i would definitely recommend the Kung Fujas for you. If you mount them a few centimeters back over true center, that will be an awesome all mountain but still park-able and land-switch-in-pow-able ski.

At your height and weight, a Fujas might be a better option. You could probably even ski the 189 just fine but that is your choice.
With the All-Terrain rocker in the tips and tails, you get a ski that is quicker to swivel edge to edge and an even better bennefit in soft snow or slush.

Camber underfoot still makes them snappy on the hard stuff. Having that little extra bit underfoot at 102 as opposed the the Recoils' 90 makes a difference in snow.

Either, way, both skis are fun. Even a 90 waisted ski was considered almost a pow ski not very far in the past, ha. How things have changed.

Thanks everyone for the feedback, its been a huge help! The King Fujas seem more like a powder orientated ski and on Mt Ruapehu here in New Zealand where i ski most the snow conditions are usually quite hard and icy. Also i can get the 179 K2 Recoils really cheap so i think i'll get them.
How far back from true centre should i be mounting the bindings? Keeping in mind i ski everything top to bottom including a bit of park, although a lot more all mountain than park.

How does the Volkl Wall compare to the Recoil??

I have the wall 2009 but have never skied K2 skies so I don't know. Volkl doesn't measure true to size. the 185 Völkl measures 181,5 cm tip to tail but I guess the ski feels longer because it's all camber. btw i'm 6'8''.

the wall is definitely a stiffer ski. personally i like it better because of the full camber. much better for riding pipe imo but the recoils will probably be better all mountain.

both skis are awesome

I am almost 6 foot 150 pounds, I fluctuate from 145-155 fairly often. I use 179's... super nice. Anyone who is looking at these skis now, if you can get them for around 350 then it is definitely a good choice.
