Editing question- PC, conversion

Hey guys, I'm used to editing on a mac and FCP, but my Mac died. So, I'm now editing on Premiere Pro CS4 (i can't run CS5 because this isn't a 64 bit machine)

I was wondering if i need to/should convert my clips (like i would to prores for FCP) to edit them in Premiere?

Here are my options for conversion(in >export to quicktime) in streamclip, if it matters

you should be able to try dnxhd, it's pretty much the same as prores. however the one time i tried it it was really choppy on a really fast machine with cs5.5, not sure what i did wrong. does cs4 not support raw t2i footage? or is it just too hard on your computer?

forgot to add you'll need to download avid's codecs to use dnxhd and that if you find a way to convert to dvcpro, that's also a lot easier on computers than h.264

Give it a shot with the H.264 files, and if your playback is bad, then download the DNxHD codec and convert them to DNx36.

Yea you really get no benefit out of converting, CS5/5.5 handles h.264 natively, although it may not be a very good codec to begin with, premiere does a decent job with it.

Colors are impossible to dial in using Premiere, the color corrector is shit.

what do you dislike about it?
I don't find it too difficult, and I often use the quick color corrector to get even and balanced results, though I do want to try something like magic bullets

For some reason I've always found the color correctors to be glitchy and overly complicated. I wish premiere had something like FCP7's system.

I just downloaded Bullet Looks & Colorista 1.1 for free of the website, i actually love them.

on the topic of colouring, cs6 has a new program called "speedgrade", pretty excited to try that out. i've never really graded much before, i usually just correct levels, etc

I'm curious too? Coloring in Premiere isn't as solid as coloring in FCP, but its not bad by any means...
