So a while ago I had my wallet stolen at the school gym.  I notified the police and reported the wallet being stolen.

Just today I received an email from the school police that says they believe they found my wallet.

So the only problem is that in the inside pocket of the wallet is my friend's expired drivers license.  Its a real license, its his old one, it has a hole punched through it and its an over-21-license.  I'm under 21.  I'm at college by the way.

I would like to get my wallet back (I've already gotten my new credit cards, a new driver's license, new school id, etc.) and I bet the money is gone (there was only like 7 dollars to begin with) and the wallet is pretty nice (but I've already bought a new, nicer replacement wallet; so in actuallity the wallet I lost has no more real value to me.

I'm just concerned that if I go to the police to pick it up, they are gunna try to charge me with some sort of identity fraud or get me in troublewith the school for having a fake id.

Does anyone know if its a crime to have someone elses driver's license in your wallet?  Will I get in trouble? 

Also, I drove to the gym with the id in my wallet so idk if that makes it a crime?

They can charge you weather or not you to to see them if you did nothing wrong they won't look at it they'll just give it to you

So my friend got an email saying they have his drivers license

So we're both gunna go in together tomorrow and if they ask just say we were at the gym together and he put his license with my stuff cause he didn't have a bag

So I think I survived this one pretty easily

Collect the wallet with him like you said. Act like nothing's weird at all about it and don't bring it up unless they ask. If he's with you and has the same story they should have nothing on you. Just dont try to explain unless they ask. You'll be good

This is a great example of how criminals get caught - by being stupid. Sir, you must be a moron. The wallet was out of your possession. It was in the possession of a known criminal. He could manipulate it in any way. Why would you mention the ID, or admit to knowing the person whose ID it is? It is obvious that the thief may have put in or taken out material. Deny knowing the person whose ID it is, and you're golden. Also, try to stop smoking so much weed and smarten up!

say your friend left it with you and you were meeting up with him to give it to him when it got stolen, that worked for me when i got arrested
