Sailing Season

Tis the time of year for many to start racing again. In the off season I got myself a nice Force 5 for cheap and have been working on my Tartan 33 and helping to prep the Laser 28 for races. With any luck I will also be able to crew on a J-92 and a brand spankin new J-70. Anyone else been busy getting ready for race season again?

Very not so. I have worked at my local hill for about 6 or 7 years now, which means free skiing. With the summers off I actually work at a yacht broker/deanship so I get to fuel my summer addiction. Plus I am up here on Lake Erie. Costs are not even close to large places like Annapolis, Newport, San Diego, or San Francisco.

Sailing rocks! haven't really been able to do too much since I moved to CO, man do I ever miss it. Grew up racing and coaching. I guess I'll just have to settle with mtn. biking and climbing, *sigh*... lol

That is about 90% of people. To actually be very competitive you have to know your shit so damn well. It's just cool to go out all day and not use 1 drop of gas

The current season's starting to come to a close for me with Team Racing Nationals in a couple weeks. I'm all about V15s, 420s and I guess FJs if they can be called more than a bathtub.

I miss sailing. Was the shit at small boats. Used to take a laser out on lake ontario sometimes in 4+ foot swells. Some of the best times of my life. Did a lot on sunfish on the smaller lakes though.


Actually took a sunny and a hobe cat out last year for the first time sailing in a couple years. Def fun shit.

used to sail and race laser. shit was getting very expensive, travelling, time. it was either i buckle down and commit or get out. i don't really regret it, its kind of like ski racing for dinghy sailing. rich kid sport with lots of dbags but still fun.

hoping to buy a bigger boat when im settled so i can sail the great lakes, st laurence and maybe down to the carib.

I just have a small sunfish that I sail on my lake. A couple summers ago I'd go out just about everyday after work but I'll prob get out a good amount this year. Been wanting to pick up a small hobie cat

Whoever mentioned San Diego being expensive, LOL what about Newport or Dana Point?

Even in these "expensive" areas there are non-profits that offer sailing opportunities that are affordable...

My friend owns a few Hobie 16s and a friend of mine owns a Nacra, Formula 18 spec boat. Hobies are fun, but the Nacra is like a Hobie 16 on CRACK, nuts boat.

I hope to own a cruising boat some day, trips to Catalina, that kind of thing.

And in SoCal sailing season is pretty much year-round

I found it for wicked cheap. Only like $750 and there is literally nothing wrong at all. Also, I was looking into racing classes and I didn't feel like getting my ass kicked every regatta I showed up at. All them Laser pro's are ridiclious

I am basically pro as shit at sailing because my family came over on The Mayflower (CLAIM). We weren't pilgrims though because those dudes were crazy (BIGGER CLAIM).
