If you decide to go JL go with a JL W3 for sound quality, a W6 for even better sound quality, and a W7 for pound; if you go kicker go with a solo baric made sub, preferably an L5 or L7. I have a chevy truck with a pioneer head unit, 600W Polk audio 4 channel speaker amp, polk audio 500W sub amp driving a 10in JL W1, 2 memphis Audio 15 MCS69 back speakers, 2 Polk Audio DB 6.5 in components w/ 1.5 in tweeters, and 2 4X6 polk audio plate speakers in the back door. To me it is perfection, the highs are crisp and clear up to eardrum exploding volumes, the mids are deep and crisp, and the little JL does more than enough for tight, SQ bass. In my other car i went cheap on it, 2 6.5 in kicker components, 2 6X9 in infinities i pulled out of the truck, and 4X6 polk coaxials i had laying around the garage. running a 1000W CRUNCH amp pushing 2 kicker comp 12s in the trunk. Sure, the kickers pound hard and rattle the license plate, but 10 times out of 10 i would rather drive the truck if i want to enjoy my music. My advice would be to check out a car audio forum, theres lots of good info on those places. THERE ARE MANY BRANDS THAT GET BETTER REVIEWS THAN JL AND COST A FRACTION OF THE PRICE, its a lot like skis, if your brand-name is popular, the prices go up. If your going for strictly pound, buy good subs with a great amp, at least 1000w to drive 2 12s. If you like to enjoy your music entirely, i recommend a great set of front component speakers (tweeter is separate from the driver), nice back fill speakers, good mid range subs, with 2 amps from the same brand same model line, one 4 channel for the speakers one 2 channel or a bridgeable mono depending on the subs. Like I said check out some car audio forums or find a good local shop thats not a big box store and not hungry to sell you just anything on the wall, it helped me out quite a bit.

Aaaahhh, car audio. Possibly the biggest fucking waste of money of all time.

How is it a waste? I love the sound system in my car, it makes my commute to work and school much more enjoyable

What makes it more enjoyable? The joy you get from knowing every person in a 6 block radius can hear your license plate rattling around?

I do not have an obnoxiously loud system, only one 10 inch sub, and it can hardly be heard outside the car. It just adds depth to the music

A subwoofer is meant to pick up the low notes missed by speakers, it adds a greater range of sound to your music. It doesn't have to be rattling your whole car. I don't really care though if you think there is something funny about it, i just enjoy it.

Well, he did spell THAT word correctly. Unfortunately, he's too stupid to realize there is a difference between the words "defiantly" and "definitely." Poor guy.

In my old car I was rocking one or two 12" alpine type R subs. They are definitly overpriced for what you get, but still a solid system. Rockford Fosgate is obviously much better quality but you still pay a lot for the name. I

I think you will be happy with either of these as long as you are running amped speakers that will keep up and have done some padding/acoustic work.

here is how I did my system:

1.got the cheapest deck available with the necessary outputs
2.basic soundproofing and very good speakers. this sounded ok for awhile but as they were being pushed by a crappy internal amp it was not great.
3.I bought a 4 channel amp and a single sub. I bridged it and used it to run the sub for awhile (just wanted that base)
4. bought another sub and a mono amp. used the 4 channel for the speakers.

5.was going to fully fiberglass the doors and get a good deck but my car got broken into, everything but the speakers were stolen, I sold the car and bought a pickup truck with cardboard speakers...

1. The range of human hearing is 20Hz - 20,000Hz. Subs generally cover the range of 0-150Hz. Less than 1% of the total range. Keep this in mind when coming up with a budget for your system.

I listen to talk radio most of the time I'm in my car. No point to a sub.
