Polar bear vs. Silver-back Gorilla.

Me and a friend were having a discussion about which would be better. Being a Polar bear or a Silver-back Gorilla. Which one?

gorillas are known for violence, polar bears fight for fun in the off season.

tough call. i'd root gorilla, being better, since it's habitat is less, although still is, threatened.

a polar bear would absoultely shit on a gorilla. its not even close.

only animals a polar bear might lose to are grizzly bears and great white sharks. even a tiger would get rocked.

Because they are incredibly smart and strong. A polar bear may be stronger, but a gorilla has opposable thumbs an could easily pick up objects and throw/hit the polar bear. Also as someone above said, gorillas can take multiple bullets to the face, and still have enough time to kill someone, about 5 minutes

Dont give a fuck how long the gorilla can stay alive after hes shot the polar bear would prolly have him pinned down as he weighs way fucking more. Lol throwing objects polar bears can run 30+ mph i don't think he would have very long to throw.

I don't think weight really plays a huge part here. For example, a walrus is heavier than all of them, but it is just a blob that can barely move. (granted it does have fangs, but they are too big half the time to get any use out of). My money is still on the polar bear though.

what if the gorilla was retarded? i believe it was the wise Daniel Tosh who said that a human retard has 10x the strength of a regular man. and 1 human retard=1 chimp, so how many retarded chimps=1 silverback. Then we could find out the ratio between a retarded silverback to a normal human. also i would like to note that this thread has made me laugh more than any other iv read on NSG, so thank you.

are we talking about the largest polar bear versus the largest gorilla? look up videos of polar bears fighting, its pathetic, they just make noise and maybe a few swipes, then its over. the polar bear never actively kills anything that puts up a fight, they just hunt seals and injured larger animasl, granted the gorilla doesnt eather. but the gorilla does actively fight over territory and bitchez. and when it comes down to the fight, the gorilla is for sure way smarter and can there for anticipate at higher levels. also back to what TooTanked said, the gorilla has the lateral movement for dodging and geting in a position to attack the bear. i dont know where some of you guys are getting your facts but the average bear is 900lbs and the gorilla is 490lbs so i have no idea where you are geting this 3 to 1 ratio. and finaly the wingspan on the gorilla is 7 foot 7 inches, thats damn big, the punches that the gorilla is going to be throwing are going to rock the bears shit.

Gorillas are herbivores. They rarely have altercations with other gorillas. When they do, the fights almost never end in physical contact. Gorillas have no concept of "lateral dodging to get into position". I compared the upper end of the average range of weight for both. Gorillas can't throw punches like you're imagining. They walk on all fours. Gorillas attack with their fangs (in the rare events when they actually attack). Polar bears have thick fur and 10cm of blubber underneath that. So effectively, a gorilla doesn't even have the ability to inflict serious wounds on a polar bear. This has been settled.

how is a gorilla going to effectively harm a polarbear? polarbears have thick fur and layers of bodyfat to protect them, only way i see is if a gorilla manages to gouge it's eyes or something, whereas one swipe or bite of a polar bear can probably kill a full grown gorilla ...

i'm gonna put this as simply as possible.

some quick info on Polar Bears

-they have teeth
-they have claws
-they are designed to hunt and kill live animals
-they can swim
-they weigh around 700 to 1500 pounds
-polar bears are the largest terrestrial carnivore, TWICE as big as a siberian tiger
-can smell seals over a mile away, or submerged in over 3 feet of ice/snow
- "Studies have also photographed polar bears scaling near-vertical cliffs, to eat birds' chicks and eggs"
-The polar bear is an enormously powerful predator. It can kill an adult walrus, although this is rarely attempted. A walrus can be more than twice the bear's weight,[58] and has up to 3-foot (0.91 m) long ivory tusks that can be used as formidable weapons.
-Polar bears are stealth hunters, and the victim is often unaware of the bear's presence until the attack is underway.[68] Whereas brown bears often maul a person and then leave, polar bear attacks are more likely to be predatory and are almost always fatal.[68] However, due to the very small human population around the Arctic, such attacks are rare.

i said i felt like gorillas had a better chance of surviving in their environment.

If we're talking ultimate survival of the genes, polar bears win. They can interbreed with brown bears. Gorillas don't have a genetic escape route.

Facts from Wiki:Adult males, also called silverbacks, range in height 1.65–1.75 metres (5 ft 5 in–5 ft 9 in), and in weight 140–200 kg (310–440 lb)

Adult males weigh 350–680 kg (770–1500 lbs) and measure 2.4–3 m (7.9–9.8 ft) in length

Math From Google.
770 / 310 = 2.48387097  So for the smallest of the 2 the Polar bear is 2 and a half times bigger in Weight

1500 / 440 = 3.40909091
So for the Heaviest of the 2 the Polar Bear is 3.4 times the Size of the Gorilla.

So yea 3.1 ratio is basically spot on, then add claws and teeth, bigger dick. Taller and 10cms of blubber to absorb said punches. The gorilla is pure muscle which would be shredding instantly by claws and teeth even if the gorilla bit the bear it would just be squeezing fat. Polar bears are natural killers sure they don't fight each other often but neither do Gorillas. If they were put in a cage the polar bear would easily destroy the gorilla. I also can't see the gorilla wanting anything to do with the polar bear so it would probably try and pussy out and the bear being hungry would chase it and eat it.

If the argument was who I would rather be well I like snow and I like swimming and I couldn't imagine having a little dick so I'd definitely choose polar bear.
