Pow Skis

I live in the east and ski about 15 - 20 days a year out west and I was thinking about getting a pow ski, do you think this would be a good decision or am I going to be waisting my money I was looking at the JJ, Bent Chetlers, and Opus what are your thoughts on those skis for my situation

I live in VT and I have a powder/sidecountry setup with ON3P Caylors. Not too big IMO.

I also just bought a pair of ON3P Jeffreys for a light touring setup (pair with Dynafit TLT Radicals).

If you want a big ski for the East don't hesitate, because some of the bigger boards can handle hardpack and normal lift serve stuff just fine. Having said that, take a look at the ON3P Caylor, Billy Goat, and Jeffrey skis. They are all in that 108-120mm underfoot range. ON3P has one of the highest quality products out there and you wouldn't be disappointed.

I'd look at sir francis bacons, they're supposed to be a blast in any conditions and at 108 in the waist can definitely handle pow. All the other skis recommended would work too, but I wouldn't want to get a super fat ski and then not end up using it in the west because there was never a lot of pow.

I love my jj's and bent chetlers are pretty awesome I can't say anything about the opus but jj is a little softer so depending on your weight is what I think would make the decision.... And if you're looking to buy them new go with the caylors, if you want to get a cheap one on ns or Craigslist go for the jj or bent

i would get hellbents for a pow ski. landing pow is the easiest thing ever with them and its so easy landiing switch. bentchetlers are really similar. opuses are good but they are not as versatile as they are advertised

I wouldn't go over a 110 underfoot for your ski. Chances are your not gonna have many days over 2ft over on the east coast. Unless down the road your planing trips out west or move. Then maybe go to a big fatty.

This, I ride Caylors in a 191 and I find they handle on hardpack as well as any 100 waited ski that I've used in the past. I also tour on the caylors, so if you've got any questions concerning that just pm me.

s7 or super 7. ive skied both including the s3 and i think the s7 is a weird middle ground between the s3 (wide all mountain) and the super 7 (pow ski). i would get the super 7 instead of the s7

They're good for intermediates getting on their first powski. The small turning radius, coupled with the huge nose and the pintail makes it a really nimble feeling slow-speed cruising ski, but once you get them up to speed, the turning radius makes them hookey, and the huge nose coupled with the soft flex lets them get bounced around a lot. So they definitely have a speed limit, but they're great for intermediates or slow speed skiers. If you want a way burlier, chargier version of the s7, I'd look into the on3p billy goat, possibly the moment bibby pro or special. There are various other skis that fit that profile, but I think if you're a competent skier and you're interested in the s7, the billy goat or bibby would fit you quite nicely. Keep in mind, these are all fairly directional skis (the bibby being more bidirectional than the rest, but still fairly directional), so it you're looking for more of a powder jib ski go for something with more equal rocker tip and tail, and with more symmetrical dimensions like the atomic bent chetlers, moment night trains, on3p caylors, k2 hellbents, surface new lifes, etc.

Armada JJs would be a great decision. I ride the AK JJ (195) and i love them. They turn really easy float like a dream with no effort and you can slay anything from deep pow, cliff drops, and back country booters. Best pow ski out IMO!

What about the Wrenegade from ON3P as well? I haven't skied it personally but it looks like it would do well in your kind of conditions.

Ive had my Sir Francis Bacons for three seasons and they have really impressed me a lot. Most of the skis mentioned would also be great choices in my opinion but except the the HellBents. Not really worth it unless you ski pow all the time.

hellbents arent supposed to be in anything but pow. thats why theyre a "pow ski". hes not looking for a 1 ski quiver. hes looking for a pow ski and hellbents beat bacons in pow anyday

for sure on the hellbent beat bacons in pow but once he realizes how much fun a rockered pow ski can be anywhere on the mountain im sure he will want to make it a one ski quiver... thats what happened to me.

you can still get a rockered all mnt ski and a pow ski. thats what i do cause the hellbents are great on those really deep days and then i have 4frnt turbos which have rocker for all the other days

I know you can but it's not the same... If you want a pow only ski get pillow fights better graphic than hellbents and that's all that matters But really if you want a pow only ski pillow fights will do the trick

wow your retarded. hellbents are way better. and how can you say there is only one good pow ski. there are so many good pow skis. just read the tread. there is a reason you never people with pillow fights and you always see hellbents and bentchetlers. its cause theyre better skis

Like session said hellbent = outdated noodle design and no hate to Ll you hellbent owners but most of the people I see skiing them are partial gapers who picked them up off Craigslist not even knowing they were meant for pow. I haven't had the honor of being able to ride the pillow fights but I hope to someday because they look like the best ski on the market for bottomless pow
