Ok so we're always trying to find ways to ski or do something related during the summer. I got watching some wake skiing and wake boarding videos one day, and one of them was a video of Redbull using a wake winch to ride a cranberry crop. One day in class I looked out at the turf soccer field and though about how dope it might be to winch the soccer field and setup some rails. Problem is that I don't have access to or know anyour that has a wake winch. So I'm wondering if anyone has ever tried this or if you guys think it would work.
i don't think a turf field would work very well. the coefficient of friction for the little pieces of rubber in the turf would be too damn high. nice try though
I watched my friend make a drop in ramp to a rail today, out of turf.. all you gotsta do is pour enough water on the turf that your skis slide. After you hit the rail and land on the real grass though, you catch mad friction and slam if you land the wrong way.
You can go and buy turf and then just setup a little ramp and set up rails. It does work very well. Get astro turf its the best for skiing on. Try it, just make a ramp and then a little jump cover it all with dirt (make sure its going downhill!) and then ski on it. It works great!
Yeah but the cool thing about winching a turf soccer field is how much ride time you could get in. On a full size soccer field I think I could easily get 5-6 rail hits in before I've run out of room, so it would be like a full park lap as opposed to jibbing one feature. Also ilikefood, this turf is like thin plastic tinsel bits. So like James. said it should slide well after it rains or gets hosed. I've been on the field during gym class when it rains and we can slide easily with runners or skate shoes, so skis shouldn't be a problem.
Yeah I think if we just wet down the strip we were skiing it would work well. Really not much different than a dry slope, accept this is flat. Problem is I don't own a wake winch, don't know anyone that does.
Yeah I've asked around and noone has. The "action sport" community around my area isnt big at all so finding one will be tough. If you get a hold of one though, just try skiing the length of the field a few times first and if it works maybe set up a rail and for a lip on just use one of those cheap black plastic skateboard ramps. Make sure the rail is off to the side of the winch line (if it was pulled out straight) since the line is at ground level pretty much I'm worried about it getting caught up on a rail or feature.
Aha P-Steeze I will do. Maybe we can get X-TREME and parachute right on to the field.....
