Rails

I grew up jumping and love that shit but have been trying to clean up my rail game.

I was taught to put all my wait on my front foot and drag my back foot..

I feel like Im doing this wrong, what is your approach?

Also Im pretty sloppy getting off of rails, any tips?

IMO the two biggest factors you need to worry about when starting out with rails
1.) come straight onto it; don't fucking hop on from either side just line the rail up in between your skis
2.) make sure your speed is fast enough but not too fast

^ yeah practice getting on with the rail in between your legs. And when you jump on, think of it like jumping onto a non moving skateboard. Keep your legs a little more than shoulder width. and keep your eyes looking at the end of the rail.

well alot of it is just practice, i mean if you can get on and off of rails without falling you just have to do it more until it looks better.

3.) get centered feet shoulder width apart
4.) slide rail
5.)jump and turn 90 degrees of in either direction and land on skis

if I can I still hop straight onto the rail. I really only hop on from the side on rails that I absolutely have to. Idk just seems easier to go straight onto it

not really. if you're just learning how to slide a flat that is the best way to get on.

I always go go on from the side, It looks better and is good practice for hand rails and harder features. (It may be harder to balance though, my friend who straddles going on to flat rails says it is easier for balance.)

Okay I can do rails I was just looking for tips to clean it up. Im doing inverts on jumps and just feel like my rails suck. I can only 90 onto them and I feel like my dismount is where I need more help. I find myself just turning and sliding off landing switch or regular. And how hard is spinning on a rail? I guess I just need to sack up and try it

This. It's common sense that if your starting out, it will be easier to slide the whole flat rail going straight onto it rather than hopping on from the side......

but its better to go onto even flat rails from the side if you're learning switchups or 2's out, because its easier to scissor

I'm not debating what way makes it easier to do swtichups or 2s out. Just trying to give OP good advice on how to get a clean rail slide down. Now stop it you >.<

I'm not arguing haha, I agree with you that its easier to go on straight on ride on rails, but thats it. I was giving him some advice for when he wants to learn swaps and 2-7's off.

Uh, if it's a street style rail, definitely don't go on with legs either side. Find ride on rails and practice going straight on on those. Then you can get used to the feeiling etc before you start on street style. Also, I found when starting out, that flat bars were way easier than round rails. Good luck!
