Wood or PVC?

What's better for sliding on? I've built my own backyard rail, and so far it's just a 2x4 on top to slide on. I'm either gonna just slide on that or get some PVC and mount it on top. Which would be better?

you don't need a welder. i have a sick backyard double kink double barrel and all i used was a drill, a coping saw, and a sledgehammer
