After the last release (^^ that video up there ^^) Surface was giving away a pair of Double Times. Luckily enough, I won! Banks contacted me through facebook for size and mailing address ect...
Then, one hungover morning I stumbled out of my room to see a tall cardboard box with these beauties in them
Now while my season has ended and I won't be able to ride them for quite some time, here's my preliminary review of these skis and the company (first time I've owned Surface Skis).
180 Surface Double Times:
First off, the visual aspect of these skis is incredible. The colors are all vibrant, but in a way that isn't over done or too bright. The color combos couldn't have been any more perfect and the graphic is absolutely perfect (these look a TON better in person compared to online). These somehow put all other ski graphics I've seen to shame, not in the design of the graphic itself, but simply how the colors POP without being overly bright.
They are very stiff, and I mean VERY stiff. Especially for someone of my stature (6'2 150lbs). They're also slightly wider, should be fun all over the mountain.
Having made skis before, these seem to be very well constructed. Everything is lined up perfectly (edge to base, sidewalls, graphics, etc...) and there's no weird flex to them. The skis are solid and look like they could take quite a beating. One thing that stood out to me were how there is only one edge to each ski (the edge startes at the tail and is one continuous piece that wraps around the entire ski) compared to many other ski companies that use two different edges and sometimes don't do a full wrap around. Just something I noticed and should help with edges pulling out at the tip and tail. While edges pulling out at the tips and tails might not be a HUGE problem in skis, it goes to show Surface is going that extra mile.
If you're looking for new skis and have doubts about the integrity of Surface Skis for some reason, fear not, these things are built solid and quite a beauty.
Overall could not be more impressed with these skis, and can't wait to get them mounted and out on the slopes!
