Having driven partially drunk once and driven stoned multiple times I can firmly say that they are completely different.

When I have driven stoned, my focus on the road is the same, if not heightened, then when I'm driving sober. In fact, I've had more close calls driving sober than stoned. And before you call me a bad driver, I have never received a speeding ticket, never gotten into an accident, and have actually lowered my insurance rate for being a responsible driver, and have been driving for over 3 years.

dub post but before someones gets mad at my post, I realize I was a fucking idiot for driving home buzzed. It was incredibly stupid and I realize it was a huge mistake. Luckily I was less than five minutes from home on roads I know like the back of my hand.

And I'm not justifying driving impaired, I'm simply stating from personal experience that driving high is not as bad/dangerous as it's made out to be.

its definatly just like drinking....in moderation anyone can drink and drive to a decent degree of safety. That being said, i have been higha nd driven plenty of times. Sometimes after a little im perfectly fine, other times i have been so high that i fear while im on the road and realize i should get the hell off the road.

The problem with weed is that it is much to hard to measure how much someone has smoked prior to driving. I have driving high plenty of time and almost always I am fine but if I have hit a few more tokes then usual but still have to go home its pretty shitty driving.
Also if you have consumed the legal limit of alcohol say 1-2 beers especially after a hard days work in the sun I find that it amplifies the buzz of both a lot. Sure I can drive home fine but I would say I am almost definitely not driving 100%.
So as far as I know most drug tests show if weed was consumed(smoked/eaten) within 30 days of the test so really hard to prove if they were high at the time of the traffic stop. Unless there is some other test out there but I have never heard of it and I'm pretty sure in Ontario they are just starting to have special officers who are authorized to do a impaired test for weed. Kind of like the touch your finger to your nose thing but a different version.
Honestly though saying someone who doesn't ever smoke weed won't drive is fairly accurate, but if they do and crash and kill someone in an accident should they not be more at fault for driving while impaired?

no it's nothing like drinking.

drinking affects your motor skills severely. even small amounts are noticeable. it also affects judgment and reaction times etc.

marijuana primarily will affect judgment and reaction times, but will not really change your motor skills that much.

drinking is way way way worse, but driving high is also detrimental. if you believe otherwise you're either 14, a stoner, or delusional.

If you smoke regularly, and I mean that loosely(I'll say 3 times a week)you should be able to judge when you are too high to drive.

Yes sure, but plenty of people will know that they are 2 high to drive and just say fuck it and drive anyways and if they hit and kill someone it is to hard to prove weather or not they were actually high.

If you just do a drug test then someone, how hasn't smoked much at all and is driving totally safe and gets into a freak accident say slips on ice or something and kills someone. They will be positive just like the person who is two high and both will be subject to the same charges. Thats all I'm saying

when i smoked alot, i used to enjoy and be completely safe driving high. now that my tolerance is super low, i get confused really easily, and dont feel safe at all.

know your limits, and you will be fine. its different for everyone.

I've driven high once and that's the only time I almost caused an accident. I could have rear ended someone going 60ish on a two lane road as they were stopped waiting to turn left. Everyone has a different reaction and mine makes me a spacey driver.

Well i got high the other day, i'm far from a regular user and i drove him cause my house is literally a 2 minute drive away, but if it was further i wouldn't have.

as for whether it should be done or not, it's not your risk to take, you're risking the lives of others on the road. if it were an independent risk then no one would care about driving while impaired because it'd be the user's fault if they hurt themselves. I would drive drunk quite often if i was only risking my own well-being.

Now, I don't drive, but I do bike. I can bike incredibly well when I'm plastered drunk, but when I'm super high, I'm really like, out of it and it freaks me out hahaha

I would agree that it's a poor idea for new drivers. Same with cell phones, and anything distracting. Eating, fucking with the ipod a bunch.



It's one of those things you just have to know yourself. It isn't like beer where people think they're in great shape to drive, take off doing 90 swerving and miss a corner.

I mean hell, I've felt to burnt to do anything. Just too jesus high and out of it. But it's one of those things you know when you're ridiculously burnt. If you feel to fucked up to operate a car than don't. IF you just smoked a bowl but you feel fine, have at it but drive safe.

i take that drunk driving part back, way different then driving stoned now i think about it, but my own opinion is that i was a crappy driver high, probably cause m not a regular user

yeah i have no solid position on this topic. I would imagine that cannabis exerts different effects on different people as well.

I read one post where someone mentioned it effects their reaction time, this is where i think some people should probably think twice.

Just a guess, but dopamine is used by the substantia nigra to facilitate movement initiated form the motor cortex, so if cannabis indirectly increases the dopamine in the SN, then there will be effects on movement, so this is the part where i would be concerned about while driving impaired.

but i dunno

1. did you not just watch the fucking video above
2. you have never smoked weed or obviously cannot handle your shit
3. being drunk and being high are on two completely different levels. cannot be compared
4. effects from weed are different for everyone but with regular use, pretty sure your not going to be a hazard on the road
