Hey guize, brain blocked.

For this project I need to come up with a song that embodies some of the themes of The Great Gatsby. Ya what an assignment for our in depth AP curriculum

Regardless any songs that discuss dreams deferred or lost love or something that makes you say, "Oh poor Jay Gatsby!"

But please any song but, Somebody I Used To Know.

from what I remember Gatsby was a alright guy

he banged his friends wife, but he had been in love with her forever, and he was kind of a victim of the war and his financial situation before that.

 I think Daisy Is the real fuck up in the story

The Clash-Train in Vain(Stand By Me) could be used to illustrate the themes of love and what not in the novel, especially Daisy/Tom and Jay/Daisy or Nick/Jordan or Tom/Myrtle

Gatsby falls in love with a girl as a teen, gets sent to war, then comes back to find her already married. He then goes to great lengths trying to win back her affection. Finally he takes the blame for a manslaughter she committed, and is shot to death for doing so.

Gatsby's story is very tragic. Although his love was misguided and he used illegitimate means to achieve his goals, the purity of his motives cant be overlooked.

Also, to say Gatsby is the most selfish character in the book is ridiculous. Daisy is without a doubt the holder of that title.

he ruined how many peoples lives for his one purpose in life. to me that is selfish. Not to mention creepy that he bought a house right across the lake from her.



I say he is selfish because he did not consider anyone else except for himself in getting his goal of being married to daisy.

funny, because i just read it yesterday and today.

and girls and boys by good charlotte for a song. i wouldn't use it for several reasons, but it's about materialistic women and the things that men do to get them, so if you're really stretched you could use it.

+ of anyone wants to talk about this book, let's do so because it was pretty fucking good.

I found that this book was the epitome of lost opportunities and missed chances. Without going for something you drastically desire you can forever throw you down a path of events that will inevitably alter your life. Even if you feel that it is to late to go for something you must try because the only regret you will have when you are between the bullet and the target are the ones that you left for "tomorrow".

good point, but gatsby didn't miss his chance per se, he was stationed in europe with the army.


Daisy, she didnt miss her chance to be with Gatsby, she really didnt want to because he wasnt rich. which is why she started crying when he was showing her all of his fancy shirts. she was quite a stuck up bitch.

lost love/unrequited love.....you are referring to a Petrarchan love scenario. a theme that is pretty common in a lot of songs. hell, even britney spears hit me baby one more time expresses Petrarchan love scenarios within it.

it's not so much "each character embodies one of them" as just the seven deadly sins being incorporated into the theme of excess in the novel. all the characters fall prey to at least a few of them.

Thats a matter of opinon, I personally feel that he really did care for Daisy. I think although he was blinded by money I believe he does care for her or at least did at one point because he did give up everything for her.
