speaking generically, variable aperture lenses are usually unpopular (at least for video), and sigma can be really hit or miss with quality control. I heard their 50mm f1.4 is amazing if you get a good copy, but sometimes you have to send it back a couple times before you get a good one. Also, the tamron 17-50 f2.8 is super popular on this site
