Swix, Dakine, and Boardside Down wax are the brands that I've liked. And definitely go iron on, rub on is a waste of your money in the long run. You could use it to compliment the iron on, but definitely don't solely use rub on.
depends on what your doing, i have made a thread on types of waxes and how to apply them but it is a little to complex for the average newschooler.
if you are a park skier, just use some all temp wax, i found green toko wax works best.
on skis that are used for real skiing you want to layer your waxes, I start with green toko, and i "hot scrape" the skis. then i put a fluro wax on, either a low or high fluro all swix.
something to note is that swix owns toko, so not really sure what the differences in their waxes are.
for glacier skiing, universal or low temp wax, i usually use toko universal but found a cheap brick of shopwax about the size of a small child's head for just 10$ ....
it doesnt matter very much gor park skiing, ive always just picked mine up from my local ski shop. i think im going to buy some bsd wax next thoguh since its cheap.
