I believe this is the second year a nest cam with live feed has been placed in a bald eagle nest in Decorah, Iowa. Everyone should go (when it's light outside on Iowa time) at least a couple times to visit this site. Last year I checked it religiously and got to see the babies ripping apart rodents the mother brought back to them. So cool
I swear the dad and mom are only on the nest at the same time for like 10 seconds max. Last night I kept trying to tell my friend when to watch but by the time the ad is done playing, the other parent would be gone... only way to do it is to just keep it playing in the background : )
It's actually an old nest that's been there for 6 years. It's 7 ft wide, 5 ft deep, and weighs about 1357 lbs... yes.... close to a ton. It's very secure and I think the only thing that could take that baby down is a huge windstorm, which is actually what happened in 2007 to this mated pair and why they renested to this tree.
I'm guessing so. They had the camera up last year as well and most mated pairs re-use the same nest if it was successful, so I'm guessing they took the camera down and then put it back up a couple weeks before egg-laying happened last year. Not 100% sure, though.
