I'm considering doing a ski tech course this year as I'm hoping to get a job in a local ski shop, but I'm not sure if they're always in demand? and is it hard to get into even if you are a certified ski tech?

surely rather than asking ns, you should go and ask your local shops to see if they are looking for techys, if they are not now, will they be in the future etc....

you shouldnt need to take a course. just stop by your local ski shops and ask if they are hiring for next fall/winter. they likely will not need you over the summer. im super glad i worked at a shop in high school/during breaks

I did, I was told they don't train anyone unless they've worked for them as a salesman before.

I think you just answered your own question here, why not apply there and work as a salesman first. Prove yourself to them that your a hardworker and all then work your way up and get trained by them as a ski tech

You don't need to take a course. Anyone with half a brain and two hands can be a ski tech (sadly, many "techs" fulfill this requirement yet still don't know how to mount bindings).
Find a shop that will "train," meaning one of their other techs spends 5 minutes explaining how to use basic tools. If all else fails, get a job at REI. Those dummies will hire anybody as a tech.
