Whats your biggest pet peeve to do with editing, filming or anything related to M&A?

A couple of mine:
-Shaky footage
-When my glidecam shots are wobbly
-Non HD footage (unless its film or well filmed)
-Loud wind noises above music

ouch. i feel like all your posts are calling me out haha.


in watching edits my absolute biggest pet peeve is when the rider looks at the camera after landing a trick. don't worry dude, chances are he didn't miss it.

1.) Hauling camera shit into the woods then trying to ski with it on your back.
2.) Forgetting headphones for some tunes on the hill.

Why is everyone so against cloudy skies? The other day while I was shooting I became annoyed because the clouds cleared and the sun came out. Totally ruined the mood.

I'm sometimes pro-clouds. I think it's easier to grade when I'm not so preoccupied on the tone of the skies

For photos it can look sick with some flash but for video it sucks unless your going for a darker mood.

Aside from gear issues like forgetting to switch from manual to AF, the thing that gets me the most is when riders think they know more about shooting than you do. The whole "HEY YOU SHOULD STAND OVER HERE AND GET THIS ANGLE" or "SHOOTING FROM THERE MAKES THE JUMP LOOK SMALL" pisses me off to no end.

in edits when people film in 30p or 24p and then play it at 50% speed or whatever, it looks so bad.

my only filming one (i'm not too serious of a filmer) is trying to film myself and ending up with a minute long piece of footage every shot. i need a remote.

-Watching my old edits that I made before I learned some pretty basic techniques.
-Shaky shots
-Having to use shaky shots
-Thinking I'm finally nailing the whole editing thing and then getting put back in place by an edit that I'll never come close to being able to make (it's really more inspiring to do better rather than annoying though)

haha I love this thread.

biggest pet peeve has already been mentioned (friends film like blind torretts patients)..

has anyone mentioned:

- rider slashing snow into lens
- paying unreasonable amounts of $ on a locker for equipment when not filming
- when using a gopro and the buttons are either frozen and dont work or are impossible to press with gloves on.

I think the mossy forests of our locations are why diffuse light looks better than hard light. Shooting pillows at Baker I'd much rather have clouds and fog than sun, whereas in Utah I'd rather have sun because cold soft light doesn't compliment the "redness" of their trees and rocks the way it does in the PNW...generally.

I love this. It gives you a chance to give a ridiculous response. It's especially good when the skiier is really good and stomps it.

This happened like a month ago. At Winter Park they have sort of a hip thing, hard to explain, but basically a lip off the side of the jump to the landing, but its big as fuck. "WHat should I do?" "Cork 3 the hip gap"...stomped. Its nice

1. finding a song
2. having to name 500 + videos after every shoot
3. doing promo vids or work that i absolutely hate (birthday parties, weddings, concerts, etc)

we are doing free advertising for the mountain, after all. i can understand it at the bigger mountains since they already do so much advertising and don't care about little edits, but small mountains should be grateful for any exposure that they can get.

also when the lockers are too small to fit even a standard boot bag, much less all my camera gear. then i have to go around the village trying to find a place that will keep an eye on my stuff for free.

what about mountains where you have to park, then take a half hour gondola ride to even get to the skiing?

what about when you're traveling and you have no car and have to take a long shuttle from a hotel to the skiing?


there are many scenarios where locking it in your car is impractical/not possible.

I guess im spoiled by my 30 second walks to the lifts in Utah lol. Even so, I would still probably just bring my glidecam setup up the long shuttle/goni and use that all day.

but yeah in the situations i mentioned i just go with the glidecam all day to keep things simple. still frustrates me that i can't easily bring the rest of my stuff though.

this is one reason why i really like Sunday River. They have a free bag check center, you just bring them something that you want them to hold onto for the day, they put it in this room in a bucket and just give you a card that says which bucket your stuff is in. If you have so much stuff that you need more than one bucket its fine! I love that!
You just have to remember to pick up your stuff before that little place closes.

Gotta love having a condo 2 minutes from the park lift in tremblant. I'll ski the morning, go back, grab lunch and my camera and shoot the afternoon.

my park has a deck that they built for us in it so i just dump my stuff there and our park isnt super big so i can always keep an eye on it

yeah luckily the park crew at my home resort (schweitzer) is really chill so i get to keep all my stuff in the park shack. it's more of a problem when i'm traveling.
