Pressing method? I'm assuming it's a pow ski or for somewhere where you get a lot of snow. Is it gonna be stiff or soft?

vacuum bag, going to be a everyday ski pow to park and groomers. going to use a solid ash core so super soft.

Well im thinking of starting out with the soft pair, then making the same ski with different cores to find the best one.

Does just a straight vacuum bag work for skis? I have one for doing longboards and am looking to do skis eventually. I was reading on skibuilders.com and they said the bag may or may not not produce as good of a bond as a pneumatic or hydraulic setup. Are you using heat blankets or some other heat source to cure the epoxy, or are you just using stuff that doesn't need to be cooked?

if youre having sidewalls you should build a press for it. it will cost more and take up more room, but the finished product will be much better. if you arent using sidewalls a vacuum bag works perfectly

been trying to , but the program doesnt really do rocker, thats why i went with a low profile tip and tail with pretty much zero camber with a soft flex.

No it isn't. He said he's making a pair, not selling them. What's the point of a review if they aren't for sale?

For what you described, a bit more camber (3-4mm per ski) will make them more fun. Your call.

Best of luck with the pressing. Hope they turn out awesome. Riding skis you made or helped build is a wonderful, fairly unique feeling that not many skiers ever get.

You'll get a lot of hate from skeptical people. It is true - a hydraulic or pneumatic press will give you more pressure to work with, especially if your using a bladder (fire hose). However, a vacuum mold provides more than adequate pressure to press skis.

The issue many people have is not making a good mold - if your mold is not exact, you will have negative space in the pressing process that doesn't receive the same amount of pressure as the rest of the mold. This is still and issue if you go the hydraulic route without a bladder, but since your overall pressure can be far greater, it isn't as big of a deal. Just make sure you are very very precise that the male and female parts of your mold are equal, and take into account the space that will be taken up by the materials being in the mold.

It might be possible to make just a male mold for the ski shape - however I am not sure how well the vacuum bag will conform to that many different bends. It would probably be best to use and top and bottom and apply pressure uniformly around the entire mold.

I would definitely recommend getting a precise mold, it makes the whole process much easier. I got mine cut on CNC router at a local cabinetry shop for ~175 $ (using all of their MDF/ having them convert it from a CAD to CAM file) and it was definitely worth it. Mine was only a single ski mold though, so that would change the price point quite a bit if your doing two.

still getting everything together and still messing with the design. found out how to do rock and early taper on the cad design. let me know what you guys think of this lay out.

the extremely minimal camber seems less than ideal for an everyday pair of skis, but it's really your call. good luck dude, I wanna try this someday.

Quick heads up about making them super soft (still your call though):

I wouldn't make them really soft on your first pair you make, it takes some time and a couple pairs to really get the making process down and the softer it is the easier your ski is going to break / slowly fall apart.

My dad is pretty good at making skis at this point and he made me a super soft pair, and I mean soft as in I could butter the fuck out of these things, and they got destroyed pretty quickly (take into account I jump on rocks and do stupid shit on my skis a lot).

If they're gonna be primarily pow skis then it won't be as big of a problem, just a heads up.
