Honestly most producers use a very very small handful of synthesizers and plugins. Just pick one and learn to make every sound imaginable with it lol. The only ones I'm really using right now are Massive and Logic's ES2.

yeah but when youre starting out it's important to try each one and see the difference in the sounds you can get out of them. ADSR synths are all very similar you just have to understand their language. I'll make a thread explaining the different elements that most ADSR synths have in common.

ADSR are envelope parameters, its not a type of synthesizer. An envelope is a modulator.

Additive, Subtractive, FM, VA.... Those are types of synthesizers.

All synths are going to make more or less the same basic sounds... If you need a whole bunch of different synthesizers because you can't get the sounds you need out of one, you should probably practice sound design more. I don't see any purpose in opening a whole bunch of drastically different and confusing synthesizers for a beginner. Anything with 3 oscillators and a few modulators will do very close to the same thing, unless you get to the point where you're a power user (which beginners are not).

No, Additive, Subractive, FM and VA are all methods of synthesis. Any synth whose main envelope parameters are attack, sustain, decay and release are in the ADSR category.
