My mom's best friend just died and the service is on saturday, She was wondering if i could take pictures of the event but was wondering if it was bad or creep. Thoughts?

Unless you're randomly taking pictures of other people I see no problem with it. I'd also try to avoid using a dslr just because the shutter sound can get annoying as fuck.

Sounds pretty strange to me. If you don't feel up to it just tell her that you feel uncomfortable doing it.

i wouldn't. the one asking to take the pictures isnt even related to the deceased. if you were to do it, get permission from the relatives of the deceased.

If the relatives asked your mom to ask you to do it, then it must be part of something that they think will help the healing process, and although it's kinda strange, it might be a nice thing to do. If It's just your mom that wants you to, and they didn't ask, I would tell her no, probably.
Shoot with a longer lens so you can step away from what's going on. People won't hear your shutter.

Funerals are generally not photographed because they're not the kind of event you want to look back on and reminisce.
