How i survived an 80 mph ski crash

i raced in arctic man this weekend..... its a 5.5 mile race in the hoodoo mountains in alaska. ski down grab a rope get towed up to another mountain then let go ad ski down the last. my heel piece broke at the release at 80 mph

i dont drop until 2:29

You ski those Atomic's much? From the looks of it they have the device/race binding... which have a recall out for their heel pieces if they were manufactured years 1998-2002...If you ski those a lot, might want to have 'em checked out by your local Atomic dealer...

they are a friend of mines dads ill ask cause one of the bindings broke in a practice run and another racer had a metal heel piece that fit then the other plastic one blew apart in the race .. thanks man ill look into it

Lurk a lot, joined to say this. As someone else said, get those things checked out. My dad was seriously injured (In a coma for 2 weeks) on those type of bindings when the heel piece just fell apart on him. I think all of Atomic's bindings got recalled a few years ago.


On topic, the event looks like a ton of fun. What's the average time for a race like that?

Haha, Should have known better the atomic bindings on those old crappy atomic race skis were recalled years ago because of heel pieces breaking all the time.

to all the haters itt; the artic man is prolly the most intense/gnar non pro race on the planet. you literally just bomb a hill, go at least 70mph (guys have broken 100 before..) get towed behind some sick sled up hill at like 70mph, then bomb another hill thats even faster.


you have to have certified big ass steel BALLS to do this race. it is just to gnar for the weak.

record for the race is 4:01 this years winner was an olympic veteran with a world class snowmachine racer haha winning time this year was 4:03 or something its a 5.5 mile race to haha recommend everyone to come up and party

well after the medic's looked me over i had to ride two up 8 miles back to the campsite where i drank a vast amount of beer quickly haha then the next morning my head hurt as well as my body

im still strying to understand what an artic man is.....you ski down, and then get towed back up? and then its over? fastest time wins huh

and IMO it looks closer to 60mph, maybe 80kph

the arctic man is an event that turns a parking lot in the middle of nowhere in to the 3rd largest city in Alaska for a week long party and then one day they some skiing
