OH FUCK!

Looks like 720/60p, full manual exposure, and hopefully a mic input. If they could get those 3 things in this would become an alternative to the T2i, smart move on Nikon's part.

Well in that case I'm pretty much not going to be able to sleep tonight. I was going to upgrade to a GH2, but this will be cheaper and I'll be able to keep all my lenses. I'm actually so stoked to figure out the exact video specs. 1080p/30fps would be sick to, but it wont be a big deal if they dont have it. I'm really hyped on the video functions though.

it has 1080/30 of course. it'd be amazing if it has some video features like peaking or zebras - though i highly doubt it.

I don't really care if it does, I've been waiting for this for so long. I'm pretty much going to sell my D3100 as soon as they release this. It looks like it'll go for around 580-650 for the body only so it'll be super cheap to go from D3100 to D3200. Hell I might be able to make money and upgrade.

Seriously? Do you really think that this tiny difference in pixel density will cause "terribe ISO and a shitload of moire"?

I definitely agree with what your saying. At first I was like "Oh wow 24mp, that's a lot for Nikon's entry level DSLR" then I realized it's really a big marketing thing too. People uneducated about photography/video/camera's will look at this DSLR and compare it to the t2i and will think "Well the Nikon has more megapixels, so I'll go with that". I read that it has ISO 100-6400 which doesn't seem too terrible *IF* it can hold back the noise at 6400. If there is very little noise at 6400, I definitely think it will hold up well even with the 24.2mp sensor. We'll have to wait and see.

I'm just saving up and waiting for them to release the D400 (or d300s replacement) I can't wait for that!

Honestly I'm starting to think the whole thing about high mp causing bad ISO is a myth. The D800 has 36mp and I've seen it scoring higher on ISO tests than the 5D iii from multiple reliable sources.
I think 24mp isn't a great move because the kit lens it comes with won't be able to resolve the detail which will lead their targeted audience to believing that the camera doesn't take very good pictures.
Nikons take vintage glass too.

This is probably a decent intro level camera, but honestly I would rather have a different camera for photo specifically. This camera will be a good video alternative for people who already own the nikon glass and have the need for a versatile b cam that's cheap.

I would also certainly suggest switching to Nikon for photo, although it's, of course, personal preference.



Also, as for it having terrible low light performance, I don't know about that. Although I do worry about the aliasing, based on what I know about that in video cams - the D800 had pretty wonderful noise performance, and Nikon's noise pattern in cameras since the d300 / d3 is mostly luminance and less chroma, so it's generally less offensive than the ugly digital noise that many cams produce.

I'll probably have one so long as I can get the body only sometime around mid-may.

photo - wise it doesn't look BAD, but it doesn't look as good as other nikon cameras.

Also, look at this one and the raspberries in the same set. Do you notice the black dots in the image? I don't think those should be there.

The exif doesn't tell us what the ISO is, assholes.

The myth is that camera specs are uniform. If Nikon and Canon made a camera with identical specs, they'd still produce different images due to variance in engineering and programming. Technically, the differences could be expressed in specifications, but those specifications would be nothing more than electrical engineering gibberish to us.

D'uh. It takes vintage glass. NIKKOR glass. And T2 mount glass. That's it. I dare say I know more than ANYONE on this forum about vintage glass. I'm just saying except for F and T2 Nikon doesn't take any glass.

Canon takes M42, P, T2, PB, F, OM, C/Y and R - no problems with any of those. Can't say that about Nikon.

Agruably, Nikon makes the best "vintage glass" but other than a couple primes, vintage glass is pointless to me IMO. My zoom lenses are much more useful and produce a great image. Sure an old 35 or 50 are fun to play with, but in the end id rather have my zeiss 50 over any other 50.

Of course we all want Zeiss glass - but it comes at a price. The cheapest (modern) Zeiss glass you'll find is the 50mm f/1.4, which runs at over 500$. Not many people (especially on here) can afford that.
Cheap primes produce a great image as well and a good prime set can be had for 250$. That's what the biggest advantage of Canon is for indie filmmakers, like pretty much everyone on here.

And yes, Nikkor glass is generally really good - but also quite expensive compared to other vintage glass.

I think it's worth underlining that lens choice is a more artistic process than determining which is more versatile or transparent (meaning they have no striking characteristics other than accuracy). You base your equipment choice on your preference for clarity much in the same way that someone who scrounges for vintage lenses does so to achieve its character.

"Best" is a equivocation. Who is to say which is better: sharpness vs softness, flare vs no flare, etc. To some people zoom lenses are advantageous because they are versatile. To others they are a hinderance because of they way they reciprocate their use; prime lenses are liberating because they are restricting, and zoom lenses fail to keep us in check by being less demanding. Of course, it depends who you ask.

nikon has seriously stepped their game up so much in the video aspect. I've shot photos and video on both the D4 and D800, and was beyond impressed especially comparing it to video on my d90 (shitty)

I would kill for a D4, feels so damn nice to hold and iso performance is top notch, but the d3200 looks like an awesome little entry level camera for many people!

I knew Nikon would be stepping up their video game.  I'm excited to see some higher end models to be released in the future.  Looks like I'll definitely be sticking with Nikon.

Why don't you like 28mm on crop? Every focal length has it's use. Be it 71mm or 168mm on FF.

28 is just a weird focal length on a crop, ive played around with it before. Its not that wide and not that tight, for a 1.5/1.6 crop, a 35 would be better IMO.

It has the same sensor as in the sony a77. The nikon should have better low light and sharpness though because there is no slt.
