Doctor NS Lower Back Pain

Hey, so my back started to ache after doing an intense ab workout the other day. It's not enough pain that it hurts, but more just an ache that gets more annoying than anything. I haven't lifted anything heavy since for fear of making it worse, and i'm convinced it's something to do with my psoas muscle.

I went to a physiotherapist twice, one session he used an interferential, the next session he stuck some needles in my lower back muscle, so far no dice. My achey pain is still there.

Half the time i can't tell if it's a normal soreness or if i'm just being paranoid, and my paranoia is making me extra susceptible to noticing and sort of feeling in my back.

I've been googling psoas stretches, and releases. The release helped a bit..

I have taken time off from physical activity and now my back only ever really hurts when i try to work out.

So now I'm at a stage where i've just decided to do core exercised every day in my room and try to strengthen my psoas and internal muscles.

If anyone has any advice or has been through the same situation and fixed it, you're story would be much appreciated. I can't stand not being able to go to the gym, i go fucking crazy, i get uncomfortable and will just start sweating for no apparent reason, i get anxious, and so forth.

Advice appreciated.

You might have limited flexibility in your lower back. I can't bend my lower back almost at all, they're certain stretches you can do.

Look up some lower back stretches and do them around 3 times a way (Morning, mid and night)

The best one I've found for flexibility is one that's similar to a Hindu praying to Mecca or some shit.

I doubt it the same problem but I've had lower back problems since, well, as long as I can remember. It's put me out of commission from football, tramps, soccer, rugby, I've been at the point where I can't sit down with my back at a 90 degree angle without immense pain. Physio, doctors, sports therapists the whole deal for years and the pains always been there (well it comes and goes), but the one thing that's ever put me on track to a healthy back is simply sleeping on my back. This is where we may differ because for as long as I know, I sleep on my stomach and while its hard to get into the habit learning to sleep on my back has been the best thing for my pains. If this problem is new to you it may be that your workout was what triggered it and you sleeping position is what keeps it from resting in a healthy position to recover while you sleep.

If you do sleep on your back, this was very much not helpful wasn't it?

I've had back problems for years and I seriously think it might be because I absolutely cannot sleep on my back.

but actually it's probably because lower back muscles are usually neglected when working out and you can get an imbalance between your abdominal muscles and lower back muscles and then when you intensely worked out your abs, your lower back was also getting worked but it just couldn't take it as well. soreness will go away. you say it was recent, like a day or two recent? because that makes complete sense that they're sore. a day or two more and you'll be fine. no need to worry

stick your butt out when you do stuff. so many people have terrible posture and destroy their backs. when you lift things, stick your butt out, keep your back straight, and lift with your legs. you probably just have really weak back muscles from poor posture and when you work you really strain your back because of that imbalance. it feels really fucking weird, almost like youre taking a shit, when you squat over with a straight back in your daily life to pick things up, tie your shoes, whatever, but it seriously does wonders.

I fractured my L5 twice pretty badly so I know what you mean about some of that. I'm on mobile but if you need anything pm me I have some good workouts that help.

you heard right, tight hamstrings can lead to back pain, it happens to me. could be your problem, OP, but i doubt it cause it seems like you know you're body pretty well. but if you haven't looked into it, hamstring stretches might help.

absolutely correct. i have short hams and it causes lower back pain when they're tight. stretch them hammies!

hey, i really appreciate the tips, i'm actually really flexible and stretch often so my hams are fine, i also keep my back/buttpoke all the time when lifting.

tomorrow I'm going to do a wide grip back workout and some try-ceps, so i'll see how it goes.

you must be banging chicks on the edge of a cliff or something then where you have to use your dick to hold them up. clinical studies show that can cause lower back pain

I had the exact same issue but mine elevated until the point where i went from being in the gym twice a day to not at all. Seriously stretch your hamstrings and work on your hip mobility. That part of your body being too stiff puts a ton of extra pressure and movement on your lumbar area

Dont know if its the same thing you have but at the begining of my season I started have lower back pain and I tried stretches and nothing helped. Soon I went to the doctor and he had no idea wtf was wrong so I took an mri and it turns out that there was fluid in my spine and had nothing to do with muscle. Idk why there was fluid there but it had to do with an injury below a fracture so I just stopped skiing for like a month and it eventually got better. Again I doubt its what u have but just saying a possibility.

ya i definitely don't think it's that. I have a pretty good feeling now that its just chronic lower back tightness.

I've decided to take a month of form working out, become flexible as fuck, and do lots of cardio.

any pain when u try to touch ur toes? or put ur hands on ur hips and extend ur back? U probably have very tight hamstring and calves muscles, i suggest stretching them doing active stretches, its possible u may have pinched a nerve as well. try to do some planks when ur back is feeling better to help strengthen ur core, do some chops and lifts with cables, and trunk rotations as well.

nope, no pain when touching toes. When i start to do any sort of work out involving lumbar back muscle my right side gets extremely tight. If i arch my back i can't even feel my left side flex b/c my right side is so tight.

Thanks for the advice though, I am definitely going to try and gain some flexibility and a stronger core.

I'll leave to core stuff out for a bit though until i feel a bit better

so its only the right side is tight, sounds like it could be ur quadratus lumborum muscles, pretty much above ur ass, take a tennis ball, put it inbetween a wall and the area that is painful, and roll around on the spot for a while, and once u feel where it really hurts, back up against it with alot of pressure to help break up any knots, if the tennis ball isnt doing the trick, try a lacrosse ball or baseball
