Not even a tour for skiing anymore now that its only one stop. Really shitty because we already have X games and dew was a super refreshing three stop major competition that gave a lot of riders an opportunity to make something of themselves.

Don't know anything about the decision but I'd venture a guess that the event organizers want to drive the overall cost of the program down (less events) and bring the quality up.  At least on the skiing side, I could see athletes wanting to reduce the # of events on their schedule, especially with all the Olympic qualifying stuff coming up.

Kinda remind me of the X-Games from years ago or the MTV S&M Festival.

they should push it farther back in the season, and then set up an open qualifier (to go along with the prequal spots) for it at a different location, like xgames used to do.

They are toning it down to save on cash, especially when the grand prix events are going to be deciding Olympic bids.

Maybe the likes of Tom Wallnuts and others can find more time to log some quality pow footage.

The one stop will be BANANAS though. All of the money from three stops will now go into one stop. Thats like 8 million dollars worth of giveaways and concerts and other fun shit. The Breck stop will be so sick.

I don't think it i'll be the same amount of cash. The question at hand is can one ski event attract as much support as 3. Think about it. The largest fanbase for the Dew tour is those watching from their tvs at home. The ski portion is going to have their hours basically cut down to 1/3.

makes you wonder if redbull is going to have its own signature series for ski/snowboard now since dewtour is now xgames breck. does this mean the dew tour is no longer used for AFP points?

no. this event will likely have platinum AFP value. as I already pointed out, there will be more grand prix events to fill the void... and placing well at those are the only way USA athletes can make the Olymipic team.

rumor has it that x-games is the new dew tour. They'll have an Aspen stop, Whistler stop, Tignes stop, and a possible Japanese stop as well.

From what I heard, this was to make space for Olympic qualifying events. By FIS rules you have to have so many events to accrue points and whatnot so that the Olympics are "open to everyone." Trying to balance a 3 stop Dew Tour with Xgames + EuroX plus the Grand Prix or whatever they call that thing at Park City would have been impossible.


Also the economy is still down, and running a 3 stop winter sports tour aint cheap.
