OK hold the motherfucking presses here...

What I see is that there is this gigantic RedBull contest going on, where the are claiming they're going to build the single craziest idea ever suggested. In theory this is amazing...

HOWEVER

I'm extremely upset that this contest isn't being strategically attacked by our website with a flood of the greatest fucking ideas ever to be conceived.

I mean jesus christ people... this is RedBull giving you a potentially unlimited budget to do something that skiing has only ever fantasized about....

Lets up the ante... if its a newschoolers' idea (post it here when you submit) that wins, we'll send you one of everything we have in the store, as well as making sure to attach your name as the legenday visionary that made skiing cool again.

So if you've already entered, share what you've done here and lets help 'em up the ranks. If not... well then jesus what in the balls are you waiting for?

thats legit, post it up man, Ns will make it happen. One thing that would make this even cooler is UFC fights in the middle of the cruise ships, but the fights are only with midgets. also, skatepark/bowl. and a snowflex jib garden.

The jetski tow in idea would be really hard to make happen, but if you found a huge iceberg that was a big hill you could actually build a city style big air jump out of it, that would be pretty cool . I just have no idea how i would make a video for it, like i don't want to post a vid that is just me talking about my idea, that would be boring

This is actually a god damn good idea too. If you pulled it off right (like icer air meets the organizers of crashed ice) it could be unreal.

Incorporate the building big air / jib / quarter idea as a finisher and god damn...

OK the real thing is we need some organization. People need to take these ideas and submit them.

For the euros, you should donate your goodwill to fellow North Americans. Do it for the sport. Contribute ideas to this thread, and someone can expand on them and enter it. You may not get compensation, but you can know that you drove our sport forwards in a positive manner.

For those of you who have good ideas or think you're good presenters... we need to start getting entries in the system.

I'm thinking three wicked ways to present:

1) Person ranting infront of a whiteboard. Draw it out while you're going crazy about it.

2) 3D animation with voiceover.

3) PlayDough models with ranting. (http://www.instructables.com/id/How-to-Make-Playdough-Play-doh/)


Of course, simply standing in front of a webcam and talking about your idea would be totally good to go. Things need to get entered in the system. As much as we can, lets create ideas here, flush them out, and get people entering. Shit, even if someone else wins we can all know that we pushed the sport forwards as a community.

What about this as a deal... if you simply enter this contest (and post it in this thread for others to vote up) we'll send you a sticker pack minimum. We'll send a few of you shirts. Anyone who wins will be showered with NS gear.

yea.. but as mentioned, icebergs are incredibly unstable and any change to weight distribution makes them roll. one would have to somehow anchor in a network or cables to the iceberg and attach them to the sea floor to stabilize it. I mean, it IS possible, but barely. especially since what could you possible use to anchor into ice that will hold many of thousands of tons of ice from rolling if it wants to roll

actually if you drilled all the way through then had a big plate attached to the cable at the other end that would work. but then there's the problem of drilling all the way through an iceberg without it rolling..

Hey, guys, remember when Mount Snow announced their "mountain-of-terrain-park," or some shit like that? Well, I've never been to Mount Snow, nor do I really want to, but that's beside the point–in the recesses of my mind, the core concept has been born.

A mountain length terrain park.

That'd be sick, right? However, with utter certainty, I can say that this is no novel idea. So,

Let's turn it into a comp; a slopestyle competition with a ludicrous amount of features. I don't mean a run with, say, two rails, five jumps, two rails (Euro X, 2010, I think it was?), but dozens of rails, jumps, and other features, spanning from peak to base. There could random quarter-pipes or half-pipes, hips, butter pads, cannons–literally countless ways down the run, not just four or five.

I get that it sounds unfeasible, due to money, judging, difficulty of competition, etc. But, let me highlight some points:

•RedBull is offering to fund it, so money shouldn't be an issue. Furthermore, we could include snowboarders to increase viewer and audience attendee (note that judges would be different for both sports).
•How upset do you get when your favorite athlete has a bomb-ass run, and then falls, completely ruining their score? With so many features, an athlete could fall, and then easily make up for it, throughout their run.
•I get that so many people revere him, worship him, metaphorically (and this word is MOST important) ride his dick, but I'm just gonna hop on that train: there was some video or other where Tom Wallisch was talking about how more features means more fun–an overall better course. Top to bottom course means a fucking ton of features!
•Runs would probably take five to ten minutes–possibly more, depending on the mountain–as opposed to the usually two to three, but, c'm'on, it'd totally be worth it!

I'm sure there are more points, but those are the immediate ones that come to mind. Personally, I think it'd be sick. What about you?

as far as this goes, we need to set it up just off the coast of newfoundland, there are icebergs in extremely low water and would be easy to anchor. I love that idea and someone needs tp pitch ot

At Lake Itasca, the river is between 20 and 30 feet wide, the narrowest stretch for its entire length.

Redbull Lake Jump is an artificial snow competition. The jump would be a 120-foot to sweet spot jump, over the lake. This would make pros push their skis to the limit for them to reach the sweet spot. That would launch my pad.

i think it would be sick if they did a nitro circus type shoot with like a ton of people jumping and looking like they are on a collision course, but with a ton of other sports, tow ins for skiing and snowboarding, ramps for a rally car, monster trucks, bmx, fmx and a giant stationary wave thing for surfing around 25 feet tall. would be tits

iceberg big air idea is awesome but i dont think the jet ski part would work because water skis and snow skis are really different and no one could hit a big jump and throw tricks on water skis. but to build a big air jump on an ice berg, maybe with the cruise ship and stuff too, would launch my pad

i don't know if anyone has said this yet but what if there was a top to bottom run, containing all aspects of skiing/snowboarding

1st you have your big mountain, start from the summit and just like a big mountain comp have a certain face that is skied and judged

2nd you go on to the slope course, normal course maybe 3 jumps and 4 rail features, judged how slope is normally judge

3rd you're on to the race course.  I guess a GS could work and its timed and shit

and finally 4th you enter the pipe, normal 22 ft pipe to finish off the course judged like a normal pipe.

*Note that all 4 aspects are in the same run so it would need to be a long run first thing that came to mind was Whistler, i don't know?
 
Anyway, somehow have a system to combine all the scores and the time of the GS together to find out who is the best all around skier/snowboarder

the redbull aid drop is a cool idea, action sports athletes fly around the world and skydive down to poor countries to deliver supplies in 24 hours. i havent seen any snow related ones yet so i will keep voting for that.
