Why are there no dangerously enormous competition jumps anymore?

All I am seeing is these cookie cutter stepovers, yay, 20ft in the air over a nole.

Go google candide cork 5 mammoth superpark , or Candid Sur Bertha

Actually aerials jumps are nuts. They're like 70 degrees at the lip, its like a 25' deck, and you go something nuts like 65' in the air for your trick. Aerials jumps are insane if you ask me.

Our jumps have always been floatier because they are more for spinning than flipping. (well, they're supposed to be)

there is no reason for step downs other than lack of snow. They are super high-impact, scary as hell, and lead to more injuries than its worth. Step ups FTW

kind of agree on the whole jump thing.  although it makes jumps a lot safer and enables people to throw more technical tricks without killing themselves it has taken a lot of the amplitude out of park skiing.  that being said, a lot of people need to recognize where the sport is going...get out of the park and take that shit to the big mountain...nothing cookie cutter about that....just ask T-Hall

I know I'd rather hit the current generation of jumps.

Massive stepdowns and scary gaps with bad angles aren't something skiing should miss.

But it's all about what the skiers value. Case in point: the dub seven at JOI. Probably the most styled out, sickest double I've seen. Let's hope for more of that.

I am sure if people were just straight airing jumps we would be saying "HELL YEAH make 'em sketchy", but they arnt.

On many of those rails stept is hitting they arnt doing 100 switchups or anything. A better example would be if we started telling Morrison to stop hitting massive cliffs.

i'd honestly like to see some really gnarly ass stepdowns. it obviously really sucks when a pro gets injured, but in movies i'm kind of tired of seeing scandenavians build the exact same jump in the middle of fuck-all nowhere on some glacier doing flat 5s with bow and arrows. next time i see a lame stepover like the one at xgames, i want a box in the landing or something
