Problems with my MACBOOK PRO!

so usually im not one to ask others how to fix trivial problems on my computer but...

so basically the sound will not play from laptop speakers on my macbook pro. i can't turn up the volume/unmute it all that fancy stuff. i can only listen to it by plugging in my headphones.

so naturally i went to my system preferences to fix the problem and went under >sound>output and the only driver in there is the "Digital Optical Port" its not even giving me the built in speaker option like the input does for line in or built in mic. WTF?

so basically...am i being retarded for not being able to get this back to norm or what? and you should know, i've never really had other output sound devices hooked up or any weird sound cards. just wondering why all of a sudden it took a shit for output

like two nights ago, didn't install anything new and it was a week or two after my last update. i dont know why the driver just all of a sudden disappeared

you most likely have dirt or hair in the port. Take a bent paperclip and clean out the sensor that is in there.

It is constantly thinking that you have headphones plugged in and therefore you speakers arn't working

its ok! the problem has been solved...just started working again today but i feel like it was some shit in the port ^

had this happen with my mac before. thats what it was. theres a little switch in there that tells the computer when to put sound through the output port it just gets stuck sometimes.

you called it. but it was definitely just the sensor being weird cuz it was lighting up red too. but its all better now

i had the same problem, look inside the haedphone jack and you will see a little metal arm....you possible bent it so it will not make contact with the adapter, all you have to do is get either your headphones or you can use a toothpick to try and mess with the little metal arm untilit pulls out enough where it will again make contact, it is probably just lodged in there.
